Phyllis Schlafly joins Book TV for a three-hour In Depth program featuring conversation about her books and viewer phone calls. Phyllis Schlafly is known primarily as the founder and president of Eagle Forum and as the leader of Stop ERA, a movement opposing passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. She was twice a Republican candidate for Congress from Illinois, in 1952 and 1970. She publishes a newsletter called The Phyllis Schlafly Report, writes a syndicated column that runs in 100 newspapers, records radio commentaries that are heard daily on 460 radio stations, and hosts a radio talk show on education called Phyllis Schlafly Live. On another thread we were discussing the European Commission on Human Rights. These commissions, recognized globally as legitimate voices of reason, are frequently the instigators of serious legal problems for our nation.

It seems the ECHR edicted that making children stay after school when they were a problem in class, was against their human rights. I believe it was Ireland that has now instructed their schools to discontinue holding problem kids after school unless they have a court order.

Folks I submit these commissions are unraveling our society. We need to disassociate with them.

The UN and European social and legal commissions are out of control. The Kyoto Treaty and other nonsense comes directly from the European socialists, which I might add many are starting to emulate in our nation.

This great lady was on the cutting edge back in the '60's, when I was a political babe in the woods. She was an inspiration to me and thousands of women, and her books taught me the real meaning of the term "conservative."

I still have a copy of "Gravediggers" which I treasure! In fact, my hubby and I bought and distributed thousands of her books as well as a copy of "None Dare Call it Treason" which is another classic.

She leads the pack with her style, her poise and her grace under fire and I'm loving the way she destroys liberals in one or two sentences - even at age 78. Good example for us all!

She's such a delight to listen to but the callers were downright rude and angry in their tone. Very few callers were polite.

I won't argue with your perception of the callers but I watched the entire 3-hour program yesterday and, although I did not keep score, I'd have to say the calls in favor v. hostile ran 60/40%. There was a flurry of DU seminar type callers midway through the program which led me to believe someone activated their slime alert network. She took on all attacks. Humidson is right about her one-liners. I envy Phillis' debating style.

Because Republicans controlled the House and the White House but Democrats controlled the Senate, the best word to describe the 107th Congress, 2nd Session is gridlock...

No! I don't want them getting along. When they are getting along, they are finding ways to take more money from me.

I agree with Mrs. Schlafly's agenda, and I'm afraid that I disagreed with her, too, in the '70's. But, now that I know that legislation often has a 'booby-trap,' I'm glad that the ERA didn't pass.

Back then my understanding of politics was pretty shallow and I thought I had to be for ERA because I WAS for women being treated fairly.

Phyllis is the one that pointed out to me the "booby-trap" of ERA and I've been a fan of hers ever since.

It would stand to reason that the whole idea of human rights by the commission is a farce. How is it that the "axis of evil" countries are able to starve their people and nothing is done about it?

I am so thankful for Phyllis. Her books might be 20 years old, but the subject matter is so relevant for today still. This is my first year of homeschooling. I've already seen great results in my boys behaviour and getting serious about learning again.

Let's hope Bush is just the beginning of good leadership for America and keeping the U.S. sovereign.

I have grown to appreciate folks like Schlafly and Buchanan. I know some of you don't like Pat, but Schlafly and Pat have been harping on the UN and globalism for a long time. Kudos to them. I wasn't listening in the beginning. Now I find it surprising how early they caught on.

I had a coworker who's dad had told here that the UN was the end to US sovereignty back in the 50s. Some folks are pretty sharp.

Everybody has there mission, and Buchanan definately has his. Great speakers such as him and Keyes really should have been campaigning for senate positions before going for the presidency. Their choice caused them much political capital.

But as Newt has said nothing in politics is permanent. Their voice in the senate for the sanctity of life and immigration is definately needed right now.

Let's hope our awakening has caused the UN more setbacks on their global mission.
