Sharpton to Explore Presidential Bid - (Barf Bag In Position)
Associated Press ^ | 3 January, 2003 | AP

The Rev. Al Sharpton announced Friday that he will form a presidential exploratory committee, saying he is probably more qualified than any other Democrat seeking the White House.

"I am running for president to finally put the issues concerning most Americans on to the front burner," the 48-year-old civil rights activist said in a statement.

He expects to file papers with the Federal Elections Committee on Jan. 21, spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger said.

"I'm qualified, probably more qualified than any other person who is expected to be on the Democratic ticket for 2004, because I actually have a following and I speak for the people," said Sharpton, who has never held public office.

Preparing for the campaign, Sharpton criss-crossed the country last year giving speeches and wrote a book titled "Al on America" that was released in October. In the book, the black leader said presidential politics has become "an exclusive club for white males, of a certain income, of a certain age."

Sharpton unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for Senate in 1994 and the party's mayoral nomination in 1997.

As head of the civil rights group National Action Network, Sharpton has been considered a polarizing figure by many. But he has moderated his positions in recent years, aligning himself more closely with the party establishment.

The dems owe the blacks for their 92% support, but you can bet they won't reciprocate. After the dems snub Al, he should run as an independent.

"he has moderated his positions in recent years.."

He has agreed to allow whites and Jews to continue to be members of his political party.

We need to start a mass movement to re-register as dems right before the primaries, and vote for Sharpton.

". . .and I'm sure the Dems will give real meaningful consideration to nominating him."

Al will be the first pick off the "list."

What will be fascinating in all this is how the likes of Robert Byrd will handle this.

"Al is "broke" so he can't pay, but if he is President then he draws a salary."

This is just perfect.

He can emulate his mentor Bill Clinton and start another defense fund, cut a few CDs, start a clothing fashion line, maybe even a new pyshic hot line from the West Wing.

Speaking of "West Wing," why hasn't Martin Sheen come online in support of Al?

Is Sheen running also?

(It's just hard to keep up.)

This is secret code for "You Democrats have until January 21st to write me a big-ass check, and don't forget the zeroes!"

In the upcoming democratic primary (2004) ...

Register as a democrat and vote for Crazy Al!

Time magazine reported a while back that the Rev. Al Sharpton is planning to run for president in 2004.

"I feel that the Democratic Party must be challenged in 2004 because it didn't fight aggressively to protect our voting rights in Florida," he said in a recent issue. "I think we need to look at running a black in the primary. I have said I would be available to do it."

Sharpton said the idea came to him while he sat under a tree in Sudan, which he visited in April 2001 on a fact-finding tour about slavery.

Assume GW has the Republican nomination sewn up. Its time for all good republicans to stand up and be counted. Lets take a page from Sen. McCain’s play book. Prior to the 2004 democratic presidential primary in your state, re-register as a democrat and vote for Al Sharpton!

Wouldn’t it be great if Crazy Al won! At the very least, lets ensure he gets prime time speaking rights at the democratic convention. You gotta love it. Line up, sign up, and send this to all your like-minded friends.

Was it Muhammed who spoke to him or a direct line to Louis Farrakhan?

(/sarcasm)

Is this realistically possible? Maybe we should start a secure web site. . plan ahead a little . .

What's funny is that if he won he would be the first President to have his wages garnished to pay off an existing defamation judgment.

Make sure you support Al. Let's stir the pot for the Demoncrats.

It is usually a waste of a vote in Wayne County, Michigan partisan primaries to vote Republican since the welfare/labor/africanhyphenamerican constituency overwhelms us, so I will be plunking for big Al early and often. Should be an easy sell amongst those who feel like I do. He is a very qualified democrat--convicted liar, racist, anti 2A, etc.

I support Rev. Sharpton 100%!! He would make a wonderful President and should be given the chance.

Of, course, the Democrat party is anti-black and the racists who control the party will fight him at every turn. These democrat racists stabbed Carl McCall in the back, refused to to allow black Rep. Ford to become House Minority Leader and rejected a fine black candidate for the National Democrat Committee so Terry McAuliffe, a white guy, would get the job. Byrd would never support a black guy.

No, if Rev. Sharpton is going to run, it won't be as a democrat; they would not allow it. They are racists. And, at every opportunity and with all the energy that was used against Lott, we should be shouting that the dems rejection of Sharpton's candidacy is because he is black!! They are the racists!!

And, if Sharpton decides to run as an independent, the bribes he will get to quit will be extraordinary. There will be cash from the secret Swiss bank accounts and Hillie and Willie will "lend" Chelsea to Al for as long as he wants, if he'll just quit. GO AL! FIGHT DEMOCRAT RACISM!!

All these Rats coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden was PLANNED by the DEMS ...Bush is just SO bloody horrible doncha know ! It's all a set-up for Hitlery a la Hollywood to be called upon to UNITE the party and be given the nomination on a gold platter . She WILL be the nominee , and a formidable one once the leftist media machine REALLY kicks into high gear . If her degenerate husband could be elected and re-elected by the US electorate ...and Gore could almost be elected ...Hillary has a great shot IMHO .
