CROWLEY: A quick look now at politics and the media.

The continued popularity of conservative voices like Rush Limbaugh has Democrats wondering how to create a media megaphone of their own.

Senior analyst Jeff Greenfield has some thoughts. He is with me now from New York -- Jeff.

Actually, I think FOX's graphics suck.

FNC's overall look is a graphic designer's worst nightmare come to life, just like on every other Fox channel. And their sets are barely better. But obviously, as long as FNC remains #1 they're never going to change a thing.

CNN's graphics, on the other hand, are just cheap. I've never been able to figure out the reason for this, especially since CNN International's graphics are far superior, and yet it's coming out of the same building. I can only guess it's one of the last vestiges of Ted Turner's original vision of "letting the news be the star" still holding on, and the graphics people think if they make it too good, they'll be "selling out" or something.

MSNBC's suck too, but they're just clueless.

CNN has a point with this comment:

"...the conservative belief that their views are not given a fair shake has led to a significant form of advocacy on the right, a kind of modern-day pamphleteering, that does not have any real equivalent on the left."

Actually, the left DOES have this sort of thing; for example, the Pacifica Radio Network and indymedia.org. It's just that almost nobody takes advantage of them because nobody wants to hear or read it.

The answer is very simple.

1. Remember the red and blue election map. It is only the over-populated, minority-filled, "culturally enlightened" metropolis' that keep the libs in power. There are so many factions and groups cobbled together that it is hard to have a coherent, acceptable message to all. The vast majority of real America is conservative, but New York City, San Fran, LA, Chicago etc... in theory can collectively negate the will of many, many states. The great equalizer is the electoral college in Presidential elections, but doesn't play a factor in statewide elections. That's why Republicans traditionally win the White House even when the House was controlled by Dems for 40 years.

2. In the old days before cable, America got their news from the big 3. Even middle America was forced to listen because there wasn't an alternative. The Dems were in heaven. Also, the national news was only on for 30 minutes a night. Now there is 24 hr cable, internet and talk radio.

3. Most people who vote Dem are not interested in politics. Minorities, gays, seniors, enviros etc...They are spoon fed what to believe and cable news shows are a blur on their way to MTV, comedy central or HBO. The lib's target audience wouldn't watch them unless there was a rapper, profanity, nekkidness or soap opera murder trial. Those that pay attention and ask questions are going to listen to Rush, watch CSPAN or Fox News.

The Dems only message is division, race and class warefare. Thinkers see this and tune it out. The sheep won't watch because they are apathetic to politics in general. The Dems can't win and they know it. Their only hope is to carp and whine that the bad ol' rich Republicans have a monopoly over the airwaves and something must be done.

Further proof the NYT's runs the liberal media. Also, the huge explosion of talk radio and internet is market forces at work. America wants a conservative media. The old hippies just don't understand......

"Amusingly, I saw ads today on FNC touting an online service which allows you to find and book hotels based on which ones carry FNC on their in-house cable. That's a riot."

I used it to book motels at either end of my recent vacation to Savannah! I let each motel know my reason for staying with them as well.

I would love to believe that conservative ideas genuinely resonate with the Fox audience, but I'm more inclined to think that most Fox viewers tune in for the quasi-sensationalism and the good-looking anchors.

Present company excepted, of course. ;-)

I hope it's not true, but when you look at the traffic on FR that relates to Fox News -- and I mean specific Fox News differentiators, not just standard news stories that can be picked up from the AP or other media outlets -- how much of it is just the Laurie Dhue fan club?

"I can't believe they missed the obvious: FOX has the BABES!"

Beautiful babes, with killer lip gloss!
Christy Moo-za-met-chi on MSNBC early morning is almost there. She could be FOX News material...in a year or so.

But seriously, ultra gorgeous Laurie "Lips" Dhue isn't just a pretty face news reader any longer. She's done a fine job reporting live from the middle east. (I think it was Lucianne who said Senator Edwards is Dhue-like. I'm sure she didn't intend that as an insult to Laurie...what can you do...Edwards is a eye batting babe. )

CNN and MSNBC are on a quest to copy FOXNews, and not limited to the gals. Rick Sanchez "does" Shepard Smith every morning on MSNBC. What an idiot...every news story has him promising to "break it down for you". He walks, struts, does Ricky Ricardo eye bulges, hands on hips like Superman, and flirts with the camera....does he think he's cute or what? But what's really funny, he asks his co-host, Howdy Doody, serious questions, like he thinks Howdy is the military analyst!

The insulated liberal elites who run CNN and MSNBC didn't have a clue when FOXNews took over. They still don't if they think window-dressing gimmicks will make them competitive. Until they figure out that both sides of the story with honest, in-depth reporting is a now a pre-requisite to success, FOXNews will continue to mop up in the ratings.

FOX Rules
