So you are saying that he shouldn't be leading the charge on this? Will someone else in the Republican party pick up the initiative and serve as the lightning rod to a sitting US Senator?

Look, I am not saying that he shouldn't be leading the charge, I am just saying that there is plenty of ammunition that can be fired against this man from the left and I am not sure that I would want my name linked with his, even though I may agree with his basic positions.
