IMHO it's about time the Republican pols in WA stood up and made some noise.

I'm with ya, Libertina, but who have we got in the wings to take her on in '04? The last gubernatorial election, all we could muster in the Pubbie primary was a state senator from Moses Lake (yes, its the stix!) who advocated teachers packing firearms as his answer to Columbine (imagine how that went over with left winger Seattle teachers!), and a talk-show host who had never been elected to office. The talk-show host (John Carlson) is a nice guy, and very intelligent, to boot, but did poorly against the incumbent, who is not even well liked by his own Rat base.

We can't win elections unless we have viable candidates, and I don't see that many coming on the horizon. All the Republicans have been able to produce on a statewide level are aging dinosaurs from Eastern Washington who can't get taken seriously west of the Cascades, and Slade Gorton, who gets pilloried every time he has to cover his butt with the liberal half of the state.

Good points all, hunter. The fact is that the RNC has written off our Evergreen State (eew, that suddenly has a new meaning to me) as a lost cause. Jennifer Dunn is the only candidate likely to get any national committee money. We tried to replace Jay " I vote with McDermott" Inslee with Joe "best conservative you never heard of" Marine. Joe got zip-point-sh*t support from the RNC. The state party here has at least 3 "X"s in front of the "S" on their jock size. To my mind, end-of-story. Murray wins again in 2004.
