Big one

Big one U.S. intelligence officials say there are signs terrorists are planning a major attack during the holiday season. But the signs are not specific enough to issue a warning to the public. Increased chatter among terrorist groups associated with the al Qaeda network has been a common indicator in the past. Intelligence agencies have been picking up signals since early December from terrorist suspects indicating that an attack is being planned. "They are talking about 'the big one,'" an intelligence official tells us. U.S. government public warnings about terrorism over the Christmas and New Year's holiday have been limited to overseas-travel advisories. The latest intelligence says a major terror attack could be carried out in the United States, the officials said. The FBI warned this week that terrorists may attempt to blow up an airliner using explosives-laden shoes, similar to the attempt a year ago by accused shoe-bomb suspect Richard C. Reid. CIA Director George J. Tenet said in a recent speech that the al Qaeda network is preparing terrorist attacks. He noted that recent taped messages by al Qaeda leaders were "unprecedented in their bluntness and urgency."

Bowl games worry me.

With the bloodthirsty barbarians at loose in this country, I'm worried too.

I will pray, but I really believe that we should be highly selective on who enters this country.

Hmmm...maybe January 9 (1-9) is the day to be on alert?

Or Jan 19th. 1-19 which is 9-11 in reverse.

I thought that was a great movie. Especially the turning of the viet-vet. Great bomb idea as well. Monster Claymore.

Mind you, take a look at teh network coverage list for the parades

I would anticipate an attack on that great American icon, the Wonder Dog balloon.

The U.S. security services are barely competent to make it to work in the morning. Their intelligence assets and capability are non-existent. The Islamists may strike New Year's Eve, but if so, the CIA, FBI, NSA & DIA will be the last agencies on earth to know it. All they have to work with is a quantitative analysis of electronic transmissions from known or suspected sites. For all they know, Abdul could be wishing Mohammed Happy Hanukah.

Then they've won. There's a greater chance you'll cut yourself and bleed to death from opening the DVD package.

The Black Sunday terrorists were justified killing all those actors and extras with bad haircuts and polyester wardrobes. It improved the species.

Times Square New Years eve is a possibility ... however, the increased chatter about the "Big One"

Well, NYC is considered the "Big" Apple.

The thing that really makes me nervous is that the Dems have been attacking GW recently about not doing enough to protect the country.

The country knows who got us in this mess in the first place, and how hard it is for Bush to clean it up. I wouldn't worry too much about their guilty whining. They're looking like idiots - again.

Damn Straight. I've been to New Years Eve in NYC, I've been to London when there was Travel Alert for Yanks abroad, I've been to the Bears-Eagles Playoff Game...hell I should be dead. Every time there's a terror alert it seems that a large contingent of freepers fall into a panic and start spouting half assed theories about how the next big terror attack will be delivered. All I can do is be vigilant. Otherwise I'm going to live my life normally, and if I die from a dirty bomb or a missile hitting my plane, well at least I will die living my life the way I enjoy living it.

Agreed.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little more on edge when streaking across the sky in a pressurized tube than pre-9/11, but I haven't stopped. That "edgyness" probably peaked for me on a return flight 9/10 this year, just after they bumped up the color code to off-fushia, burnt-tope, rusty-bicycle or whatever it was.

The fact is I have a life to live and a job to do. I always want to come home to my kids smiles and hugs, but how could I look them in the eye if I cowered in fear at every turn.

>New Years Eve

Someone had this vision:

"On CHRISTmas Day I 'saw' suicide bombers go into the crowd in New York Times Square December 31 - midnight - the ball drops ----- BOOM! The world will see it .. it will be 'SPECTACULAR' ..."  Source
Less obvious than a Muslim carrying a suitcase nuke would be Muslims carrying disease of some form (plague, anthax, smallpox, etc.) at a communicable stage and intentionally mingling with the crowd, i.e. suicide "bombers" carrying disease.  Something to think about.

There's nothing more terrifying to a child than to see their "all powerful protectors" afraid.

Hey, I just heard Katie Pilgrim, newsbabe for MS-NBC say that we're in a war against, if I recall right, "radical Islamism." Interesting.
Progress?

In a perfect world with no threat of terrorism, I think I'd rather be anywhere else than Times Square at midnight on New Years Eve. Must be the old age kicking in.

Just once, I'd like to hear of an INS agent or border patrol guy slam a suspect up against the vehicle and shout "You're not going to kill anyone on my watch scumbag"
