Big one U.S. intelligence officials say there are signs terrorists are planning a major attack during the holiday season. But the signs are not specific enough to issue a warning to the public. Increased chatter among terrorist groups associated with the al Qaeda network has been a common indicator in the past. Intelligence agencies have been picking up signals since early December from terrorist suspects indicating that an attack is being planned. "They are talking about 'the big one,'" an intelligence official tells us. U.S. government public warnings about terrorism over the Christmas and New Year's holiday have been limited to overseas-travel advisories. The latest intelligence says a major terror attack could be carried out in the United States, the officials said. The FBI warned this week that terrorists may attempt to blow up an airliner using explosives-laden shoes, similar to the attempt a year ago by accused shoe-bomb suspect Richard C. Reid. CIA Director George J. Tenet said in a recent speech that the al Qaeda network is preparing terrorist attacks. He noted that recent taped messages by al Qaeda leaders were "unprecedented in their bluntness and urgency."

I am going on with my life as normal. I really am. Of course I am more aware, and I pay closer attention to those around me, but I refuse to be drawn into a constant state of fear...fear is what Al Qaeda lives on--and they haven't been successful in getting me to contribute.

Damn Straight. I've been to New Years Eve in NYC, I've been to London when there was Travel Alert for Yanks abroad, I've been to the Bears-Eagles Playoff Game...hell I should be dead. Every time there's a terror alert it seems that a large contingent of freepers fall into a panic and start spouting half assed theories about how the next big terror attack will be delivered. All I can do is be vigilant. Otherwise I'm going to live my life normally, and if I die from a dirty bomb or a missile hitting my plane, well at least I will die living my life the way I enjoy living it.

Peachy.  More airport security guards will be asking little tow-headed children and rosey-cheeked old ladies to take off their shoes, as the rest of us attempt to catch our planes.  I hope they don't to strip searches on all my felllow cheese-heads at Lambeau Field next Saturday, it gets cold up there. Since it is highly unlikely that they could commandeer a big jet airliner again, what would a small aircraft do to the dome of the SuperDome were it to impact it at 200 mph?

When I suggested my 24 yr. old daughter might not want to fly home for Thanksgiving last year......she was adamant that no one would stop her from being with her family. It isn't to say that there aren't worries, but we have all been flying, visiting, and not missing the joys of being with each other. These visits are even more precious now in the light of 9/11.

Glad to know others are undaunted.......

Good thing I don't have a DVD player yet. VHS has been vedy vedy good to me.

When we first got our DVD player, we watched a lot of DVDs for a couple of weeks.

After the novelty had worn off somewhat, I put in a VHS movie for the first time in a while. My initial reaction was, "what in the HELL is wrong with that picture?" I thought my VHS player had malfunctioned.

But no, I had just had my first opportunity to learn how inferior VHS is to DVD.
