I think it is the Sullivan Law (
H. L. Mencken On Gun Control), which was passed to keep minorities from possessing hand guns in New Yawk Sh**ty.
Looks like the law is serving the Plantation Overseers well in this case - they are able to arrest another uppity minority guy, and send a message to the rest of the slaves.

4 times? Why'd he have to shoot him 4 times????
To: rudehost
Can anyone explain exactly what law it is in new york that makes this gun illegal?Possession of unregistered handguns in NY state is a felony. And of course, felons lose their RKBA. You will have to ask some other FReeper why it's so important that felons don't have guns.

But if you're Joe Six Pack, you're simply out of luck. You are correct. Happily CCW'd here in Florida :-)
Did you notice the report does not mention New York CITY......... although Brooklyn and Queens are on the Island, they are only referred to as LI when NYC's reputation is in question. If this was LI proper, Nassau or Suffolk county would get the rap.

Hubby is an ex-cop...says people don't always die if you shoot them once....that's tv.
He says, "If you need to defend yourself with a gun, ALWAYS fire at least two shots, to be safe, rather than sorry."

Tell hubby- ammo is cheap compared to funerals or doctor bills or ??, so....
EMPTY THE CLIP & Reload.

Yeah, but he could have yelled out that he was armed or something...seems kind of trigger happy to me.

Don Imus has a handgun which he wears openly on television. Yet, he is publicly in favor of gun control. This should warrant some attention.

Maybe he did yell out, and maybe the crook is just a crook.

I think Inwood is in Nassau County, abutting SE Queens. And Jamaica Hospital in Queens is quite a haul. I wonder why they didn't take him to St. Joseph's in Far Rockaway, also in Queens.

To Mr. Freamon. Licensing of firearms is not required under the 2nd Amendment. Take 'em to court! Contact the Gun Owners of America and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
You have a case.

Hey! That's the liberal mantra!

New York is freaking amazing - even if you have a carry permit for self-defense, once inside city limits, you have to have a trigger lock in place. I guess they expect you to club the attacker with it.

Writing tickets is ringing the cash register and keeps the citizen-subjects in line. Busting crooks is an expense and a liabibility.A fearful public is a more managable public.
FWIW, If NY wanted to kick up their saging tourist trade they would let the puplic pack heat.

Perhaps he just had mental or medical problems. Shoot first ask questions later...just doesn't seem right. The homeowner should have tried to take control of him with escalating force, first a warning, then empty hand techniques, then an impact weapon. If all that didn't work then I could see shooting.
