Hey, by your reasoning, I've paid a boatload in taxes--when am I going to get my due?

Then you should have moved when you could afford it. Don't get mad at me because you made bad decisions.

It's aggravating to live modestly and save, only to see those that have spent all theirs expect some of somebody else's money because theirs is gone.

Extending the UI for three months for one million people will be in the range of $3 billion (assuming $1000 average/month). Compare it with other budget items. Most of your money will go elsewhere.

Kindly read my posts #61 and #65

Here's an excerpt ...

On a good note ... after 9 months of hell 88 recruiters and dozens of resume submittals ... I got a job in an electronics company doing something distantly related to my disipline. I was into my first extension, without which I would have gone hungry.

AND ANSWER MY QUESTION

Actually I did look into that and was going to pursue it ... but then I got a job. BTW it's an additional 2 years to get a certificate in Calif even with mutiple degrees. Didn't help with the immediate problem.

This is the crap I am talking about--that job is beneath me-I have X number of degrees and I'm super intimidating to you mr. regional manager. I knew that you all would show yourselves for the REAL reason you are being turned down for jobs. I wouldn't hire someone who gloated about their high IQ either. Who needs someone who thinks they are better than everyone else they are working with. My guess is the people skills of some of you are abyssmal. I certainly would not want to lose a reliable staff I already have because some guy with a high IQ thinks his crap doesn't stink.

In Dallas, where we are going through a high tech Depression, and it shows in the Real Estate market, there ARE jobs, just not the ones you want. At the restaurant I work at, we hired 10 people in November.

Using savings to take classes to make myself more marketable is a bad decision? Taking care of my health with savings is a bad decision? To hell with you. You will never be able to understand the position I'm in until you live it - so blow it out the termination point of your digestive tract.

Sell one of your homes and move to AZ and teach... There's always openings in that field here... and living is relatively cheaper... Our house valued at 110,000 in Phoenix would sell for three times that in CA.

BTW< you and RLK aren't addressing the family in this article. THe one with the wife whining that she'll have to get a job to make ends meet. Are you still ok with paying unemployment when there is another spouse in the household who could get gainful employment?

Yeah you could move to Texas and help ol' RofT out at the Burger King.

BUT in ALL sincerity Keith ... keep your head up and keep banging at it. I flew to Boston, Orlando, Seattle, Austin, Portland Ore. and even Idaho for interviews. NO matter what some IDIOTS out here think .. you can't just give up on all your years of school because of this high tech DEPRESSION. I know how hard it is. The worse think to do is to give up. I had my friend come over and get my guns one night after losing out on one job that I really wanted. You have to remember .. it's not your fault .. there are a LOT of us you have or have been out for a long time.

As a Realtor, I've worked with A LOT of techies over the last 5 years. Hell, they WERE the homebuying market for a while. The personality type it takes to be a good engineer, is almost anti-social. I have the opposite personality type, on a standard DISC test. I had to change to work with them, so I could give them what they wanted. I guess engineers are incapable of doing that in reverse.
