It has been some years since I stopped donating to UW. I asked local UW officials, "what was the effect of designating a charity?" In a word their answer was, "the dollar
with my name on it went to the charity but the final size of that charity's pile of money and the relative sizes of all charities' was determined by UW's administration." We were told that nothing we could do would change what a charity received.
The conspiracy of ignorance masquerades as common sense.

I figured out a way to do charitable work without the hassle of wondering where my money went. I donate my time, give blood or help out friends who need help. I stopped giving money to groups that use only a percentage in order to qualify as a charitable organization.
Some groups are only required by the state to give as little as 5% after administration costs.

I quit donating to the United Way years ago. I heard about some of the groups they give money to and got sick to my stomach. I was a department rep in the hospital I worked at. I told them why I would no longer be helping on the membership drives or donating my money anymore, they didn't care

Where have you been? The United Way has been a front for the gun-grabbers for a long time.
