"I see no sense in glorifying him or that gun...[the Tommy gun] was used in the commission of a felony," Dominguez said. "I would consider melting it down or find another way to properly dispose of it. Is this guy Taliban?

While not on the scale of the Bamiyan Buddhas, it is possible to link the thought process used to decide to destroy something historically significant that you personally don't like. Just saw you post after think out lound that this guy sounds like Taliban. I agree with you completely. You are not wrong.

Thanks. It's the first thing I thought of as well. I was worried I was going off the deep end.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I, for one, agree with the sheriff.....If...
He agrees to having the gun strapped to his chest prior to it being dropped into the furnace, I just watched "Attack of the Clones" and maybe if shown the scene where the Princess is stuck in the slag bucket he might change his mind!

Some of Dillinger's relatives live in the same town that I live in, and they pronounce the name the same way that I have always heard it.
I would assume the family pronounces the name correctly.

He looks like he has eyes for blonde Swiss boys. Definitely wears pantyhose and never goes to the range. Formerly known as Dominique Dominguez.

I guess they don't need money when they have asset forfeiture laws.

Jeeze, what a moron!! This idiot wants to toss a million dollars in a smelter?? Sounds like this clueless fool has been on the public tit all his life. Aren't there any county commissioners that could find a use for a million bucks? Any museum could accept this historic and irreplaceable part of Americana without any stupid papers. Idiots like this are why people don't respect the cops.

You use this as an excuse to bash America? You're as stupid and dangerous as that stupid cop. Go back to France.

I'd like to have one of those guns myself.

In the newsreel of the day, where Dillinger's father was interviewed, the "g" is soft, as in gang.

and dangerous as that stupid cop. I know I am dangerous: I am armed.

More destruction of history in the name of political correctness.
Another attempt to erase (or melt-down) history).
On the Dillinger episode on PBS's "The American Experience" series...it was shown
how the female head of police (sheriff?) for (IIRC) Crown Heights (or Crown Point?)
was in charge when Dillinger made his escape...
pretty amazing when even PBS will broadcast such a thing...
