Very nice article. Especially about Jimmy Carter and Neville Chamberlain having the same place in history. They deserve each other.

So if a newly constituted Iraq emerges as a sane state, America will have no desire or need to protect Mr. Mubarak, King Hussein, or the Saudi royals from the wave of popular uprisings that we ourselves helped to let loose in Iraq.

King Hussein certainly does not need protecting, having been dead for some time now. His son Abdullah might. But actually Jordan has been one of the few real Arab allies in the WOT. A democratic Jordan (Palestein East) would be worse.

Otherwise, a pretty good article.

Excellent read. Thanks for the post. Clinton's place in history becomes more and more marginal by the day. The scumbag and spouse (aka PIAPS and BJ) are totally eclipsed by Ronaldus Maximus on the stage of time. The only ones cheering on the Klintoons are the Red and Pink Daiper babies and their hangers on. The rest of America grew up fast after 9/11.

In an otherwise brilliant-as-usual article, the author tips his hat to a leftist lie thusly:

"as discredited as segregationist Republicans were during the civil-rights movement"

The Democrat Party historically and currently are the supporters of racial pre-judgement (prejudice) and separatism. For about four years there (1966 - 1970) they were actually for equality. But before then and ever since, they have been in favor of treating people differently on the basis of pigmentation.

Contrarywise, conservatives and the Republican Party have (virtually) always stood for equality among the races. This principled position makes us Politically Incorrect now, since we don't want to implement racist hiring policies (a.k.a. "Affirmative Action").

Classic examples are LBJ, one of the most racist Presidents ever, compared to any of the last five Republican Presidents.

Keep up the good work, VDH. But please steer clear of endorsing the lies of the left.

So if a newly constituted Iraq emerges as a sane state, America will have no desire or need to protect Mr. Mubarak, King Hussein, or the Saudi royals from the wave of popular uprisings that we ourselves helped to let loose in Iraq. Their only long-term salvation, then, is right now to begin democratic reforms, open up their media, and hope for our forbearance.

The popular resistance to these regimes are all Islamist. Democratic reforms will lead to the election of anti-west Islamic parties. Iraq as the most secular Arab state may have a chance of surviving as a democratic republic, but the other states are going to vote themselves into Sharia law and religious dictatorship.

"President Clinton's lip-biting and apologies rendered caricature redundant."

What a great line!

[middle eastern states] like former Eastern European Communist hacks, are likely to become the flotsam and jetsam in a tidal wave of change.

Change is certain, but I wish could be as optimistic as Hansen.

On the other hand, if we don't act now, it will only get worse.

Fabulous piece of writing and insight. Thank you for posting it. The rabid hatred for our Dubya that I hear from the Left, and even from a scary minority on the perpetually disgruntled far Right fringe, makes me fear for the President's safety. I sure hope the Secret Service is taking every possible precaution, and then some. Because, as the Left continues its slide not only into irrelevance, but into the bright light of truth, it's hatred will only grow. The sewage that was the Clinton administration led inexorably to 9/11, to Hussein's belief that he can bluff us once again, to North Korea's belief that we will fall for its blackmail, and to myriad other problems. Someday that truth will be fully exposed for all to see. The Left will do everything it possibly can to prevent that day from coming.

unassimilated Muslim populations

These are the three words which summarize the threat to the world. There is no history of the peaceful assimiliation of Muslims into a non-Muslim society. There is violence and bloodshed wherever these people have moved in numbers.

Iraq will not be the key that frees the Middle East from its anti-Semite and anti-American stupor. It will however help to provide the framework for rectifying the situation. First the Afghanistan Taliban problem was fixed. Second the Iraq Baath Party problem is fixed. Third the [fill in the blank] problem is fixed. Fourth the .... This road is a long and winding one, but one which must be taken.

Western Europe and the leftist who run it, are a bunch of spoiled brats who have been protected by NATO's umbrella (read America) for decades. They have forgotten how easy it is for the Western Europian countries to stab each other in the back. I agree with this author that the Eastern Europian countries, who were recently freed from communist slave labor, will be America's best ally in the long run. They understand the Islamic threat from the south, the Communist threat from the east and the always present Fascist threat from western Europe.

Just wait till we get a look at all the "Made in Germany" stickers on Saddams WMD facilities. I hope Saddam owes those bastards a bundle that they will never collect.

Exaggerating the collateral damage from the most precise weapons in military history, inflating by magnitudes of ten and more civilian casualties, spreading ad hoc conspiracy theories about pipelines, oil, and Texas corporations, raising doomsday scenarios of global anti-Americanism and nuclear hysteria in the Middle East — all that is about the extent and quality of the current anti-war exegesis, itself mostly discredited by its previous and completely wrong predictions concerning Afghanistan.

A BTT just to reread the above paragraph. I was going to add the stupefying (and inaccurate) sloganeering "no blood for oil" but I see he has even that one covered.

Gut-punch.
