We're going to need about 100,000 in Iraq for occupation duty, most of the National Guard here at home for Homeland Security, 15,000 in Afghanistan, plus our Balkan deployments. We're screwed unless we restart the draft. Problem is, I think most of our young people will run for Mexico and Canada if the draft is restarted.

All they have to do is to start recalling all Army and Marines who have left the service in the last several years (from Clinton's B$ leadership). They'll get the number they need.

Draft Riots took place during the opening stages of the American Revolution, too. We'll always have them. The number would be higher than ever, but the media will hold them up as sensitive, loving people in need of a warm blanket and a pair of Nikes.

Our citizens couldn't run to Mexico. They don't allow illegal immigration.

It's not just the young people. 50% of the population does not want to fight against our enemies. I am 22, so if there is a draft, I will go. I saw the World Trade Center collapse up close and I'll try my best to prevent my city from getting nuked.

Maybe that would be a fair trade for all of the Mexican people who have crossed the border into the USA.

Can we pass a new law?

A Pre-requisite for voting is prior military service, membership to an active ROTC unit with signed contracts, or membership in the Peace Corps.

Sadly, I concur. What I see here in Washington state, these leftist would not defend their homes, block or city, much less this republic. They are weak kneed, need constant mothering, dress like Elvira, and are totally limp and lame. If a draft were started, I seriously doubt 50% would show up.

Actually, I disagree with you.

War in Korea would break out only if the North Koreans took an overt hostile act (consisting of a suprise attack of Main Force infantry and armor over the 38th Paralell-they have few ships worthy of the name and their air force is held together with bailing wire...)

If Plans calls for 690,000, then that means two things:

1. A complete reserve and National Guard callup.

2. Reinstitution of the draft.

The American people would accept this only if the North Koreans were stupid enough to attack and draw first blood. Which they would. They have more artillery tubes than you can shake a stick at and could lay down a barrage that could obliterate the Indianhead Division stationed at Camp Casey.

Trust me, we're not a nation of cowards. The only reason why we didn't reinstitute the draft now is because you don't fight shadow wars such as the one against Al Qaeda with massive conscript armies. Neither does one need a large conscript force to deal with Hussein's clown car force.

The North Koreans are a different matter. They make the North Vietnamese look like Girl Scouts. Case in point? The record of the ROK White Horse Division against the NVA and the VC back in the sixties. The Vietnamese did not want to be around when that unit was there.

We would need a draft. And the American people would respond. Being attacked will do that to you.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

The volunteer age should be raised.

A lot of fathers will go in place of their sons.

Any able bodied man up to 45 should be able to go in place of their son.

One thing I can't begin to understand or abide is the concept of buying your way out(Civil war) or getting a college deferment (Vietnam).

What the hell is that all about?

No wonder there were protests against the draft in Vietnam.

No goddammned deferments.

If it takes a draft to keep us free, lets do it the right way this time.

I disagree, I think that most people would do the right thing. Prior to WW2, most people has a low opinion of the younger generation, yet they were able to meet the challenge. I think that this generation would too. (in spite of the best efforts of the liberals.)

Remember it took an extremely long time for the anti vietnam war movement to become powerful. Any War would have to drag on for quite a while for a major anti-war movement to develop again. And for large number to flee the draft, it would require a large anti-war movement to encourage/justify fleeing the country to avoid a draft. I don't think that most people wouldn't do it on their own.

Well why not? Why should all of our young people go off to fight and die, when they would be leaving behind up to 15 million illegal aliens to enjoy America's freedoms, our standard of living, our home town, jobs, our social services, hospitals, etc, etc.

Why should our young people run off to muddy, freezing trenches and and fight, when millions of illegals are sitting here having a good ol time?

I served long ago, and I am beyond draft age, but If I wasn't, I would tell the government to stick it until they did their job and either deport or draft the millions of illegal aliens first. Millions of illegal aliens are sitting here enjoying all the benefits that America has to offer, with no worry of having to fight or take any risk for her.

Get drafted and fight for millions of illegal aliens? When pigs fly.
