Seoul, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- The United States would deploy some 690,000 troops to augment the 37,000-strong American military presence already here if war should break out on the peninsula, a Defense Ministry report showed Friday.
The augmented forces would comprise of Army divisions, carrier battle groups with highly-advanced fighters, tactical fighter wings, and marine expeditionary forces in Okinawa and on the U.S. mainland, according to the "1998-2002 Defense Policy." The ministry published the report instead of a white paper.
So are mine.
Like I said .... video games. Video Game DON'T shoot back with REAL ammo. At least when kids played "Army" ... they were getting real life experience in how to relate to a REAL living group even if it was in a childs game.
The fact that you believe this about Bush, says more about you than him. I seriously doubt Bush is giddy about American servicemen dying. He's not Clinton for God's sake.
Well why not? Why should all of our young people go off to fight and die, when they would be leaving behind up to 15 million illegal aliens to enjoy America's freedoms, our standard of living, our home town, jobs, our social services, hospitals, etc, etc.
Why should our young people run off to muddy, freezing trenches and and fight, when millions of illegals are sitting here having a good ol time?
I served long ago, and I am beyond draft age, but If I wasn't, I would tell the government to stick it until they did their job and either deport or draft the millions of illegal aliens first. Millions of illegal aliens are sitting here enjoying all the benefits that America has to offer, with no worry of having to fight or take any risk for her.
Get drafted and fight for millions of illegal aliens? When pigs fly.
I'm not sure that calling communists fascists is letting them off the proverbial hook. Communism is different from capitalism, and it is also incompatible. Fascism and capitalism, on the other hand, are quite compatible, and given the Chinese drive to upgrade their economy, more suited to them.
Communism has directly given rise to the most butchering thugs in all of history. With few exceptions, the great atrocities of the 20th century are their works. Mao and Stalin are sharing the first prize in the 'Mass Murder' category, wherever they're currently burning.
My only point here is that China is evolving from a backwards agrarian communist hybrid into a modern fascist police state. Their goals are the same, their capacity for killing and mayhem are the same, they're just rearranging their economy to be more effecient. This will lead to a China far more formidable and dangerous than it ever was under communism.
That is my take on it also. As has been stated here often, if Clinton had done the things Pres. Bush has, the Republicans and those here on FR would be howling about it. I don't know how anyone can believe that President Bush is really sincere about national security when he allows our borders to remain open for whatever wants to cross.
I got kicked off line and then lost the thread - but that is good because it gave me time get through crying after reading your post. It is reality amidst all the bombast and hot air.
We need to be reminded this will be fought by the real sons and daughters and before they are put in harm's way, we should all demand that everything that can be done, short of military action, has been done. If it is then inevitable, we should also demand that if these sons and daughters are going to be sent there, President Bush do everything in his power to make this country safe here at home. This includes taking of the kid gloves with illegals of all ilk and stop playing footsie with Fox and the Muslims. He needs to be honest and upfront and do what is necessary - no matter how hard it is or whatever head of state or religion he might upset = or how many of his corporate donors might get mad. In other words, if we are going to fight terrorism - let's fight it and all the way. Personally, I think our sons and daughters are important enough to demand that.
My prayers also will be with them.
Just for the record, I was commenting on how young people would respond to the draft. I agree that a draft cannot be effective in meeting a short term emergency need. A draft may be needed if we were facing a major(long term) war i.e. WW2.
The military doesn't need more people, it needs money for spare parts, training, new weapons, and reorganization. Extra personnel now would be fat where we need muscle.
I think that manpower will always be a highly debateable issue. We only have 10 Army divisions. With our current strength, we have many people are leaving the military due to the family hardships caused by constant deployments.
Imagine what would happen if we became bogged down in Iraq, North Korea (million man Army). Not only do we need troops to fight both conflicts, we also need troops as reserves, troops to rotate/replace units in combat, etc. Also we need to be prepared NOW for what if...What if China moves on Taiwan, Japan, etc.
Don't mean to nitpick but how do you see fascism (a form of socialism) being compatible with capitalism (free markets)? Unless you are referring US where Gov't regulations are resembling the fascist system more and more.
