Seoul, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- The United States would deploy some 690,000 troops to augment the 37,000-strong American military presence already here if war should break out on the peninsula, a Defense Ministry report showed Friday.

   The augmented forces would comprise of Army divisions, carrier battle groups with highly-advanced fighters, tactical fighter wings, and marine expeditionary forces in Okinawa and on the U.S. mainland, according to the "1998-2002 Defense Policy." The ministry published the report instead of a white paper.

The military itself is politically irrelevant, so long as it protects the government. Aside from the generals, they have no say in anything, and the generals themselves couldn't care less about Leninist/Marxist thought. It wouldn't matter if they are communist, nationalist, Democrat, or what. The Red Army (granted, they still use the term) is run the same as ever, because they want an unbroken continuity of propaganda. Even so, they've done away with the company level political officers, and the indoctrination isn't a fraction of what it once was.

Mao's dictum that 'power flows from the barrel of a gun' is true as ever in China. However, the average Chinese soldier is motivated by patriotism and nationalistic feelings of superiority. The average Chinese general is motivated by money. By fueling these two appetites, the government keeps the PLA loyal. Any adherence to Mao's principles of the 'glorious Socialist revolutionary struggle' is pure lip service.

The North only has a few weeks to be victoriously--that's means taking over the entire South Korean peninsula. Their only real weapon is their massive numbers and first surprise. If they get bogged down, look to Korean I for a replay, but this time they will be finished off--unless the Red Chinese start pouring south again....Then we are in for the long haul.

I think that your arguments prove what I am trying to say: China is still runned by Communists, driven by Communists towards their goals.

I do have to clarify one thing and that is Communism as taught by Marx and the Communism that Lenin made are two different things. One was theory, the other is practical. What you see in China today is the practical aspect of Communism at play: "socialism with a Chinese face."

Don't be fooled. They are after the conquest and control of all of Asia, including the Russian part of Asia. It doesn't matter if the people themselves don't believe, so long as the military is in de facto control of China, it is still Red China.

If devout mothers, fathers, and siblings are so thrilled to send their children wearing bomb belts to "paradise", then entire muslim families will be obliterated along with their hate breeding communities.

Muslims have established these rules of engagement. They should die by these ROE because they will surely continue killing by them. PRC facists should take notice as they dream of the Pacific Ocean as the Greater China Sea.

I think we're agreeing in everything except for the use of the word 'Communist'. Regardless of the semantics, their goals are what you stated earlier. The Chinese are seeking regional hegemony. Period. This will bring them at odds with their neighbors and us.

I remember back when I first began studing Chinese, one of my teachers, a highly educated man, told me that Siberia was taken from China by the Tzars, and it is rightfully Chinese. Sentiments of what the 'real' borders of China are are at odds with practically all of their neighbors. This will be a point of interest in years to come.

During WWII the majority of the people were more than willing to fight the enemy. I wonder what has happened to our population since then. It is clear that a much smaller percentage of the population loves America today and is willing to fight to defend it from the enemy than it did 60 years ago. But why is that, in your opinion?

In my opinion, I really do not have a definitive answer to that question. However, as you mentioned, it's a different generation. I do not want to criticize the "good" Baby-boomers, but this country since the 1960s has really gone down the toilet (except for technology and Civil Rights for blacks). The baby-boomers that went to college thought they were smarter than anybody else, because they went to college. However, as a recent graduate myself, I know college does not make a person smarter. Once these boomers got into power (politics, business, education, etc.), American society began to drift from its roots. I don't want to disparage millions of people, but hey, I had baby-boomers who raised me. They act odd.

Why are things different? I'm not sure, but I think the stench of liberalism has permeated the media and the educational system. We have a population that's being brainwashed to hate America to go along with a "blame-America-first thinking." NY Times, Tribune Co. papers, television networks, etc. Most people here are intelligent, but most of the American people are ignorant regarding political affairs. They are easily lied to by the press, and that has a tremendous affect on the population.

I disagree, I think that most people would do the right thing. Prior to WW2, most people has a low opinion of the younger generation, yet they were able to meet the challenge. I think that this generation would too. (in spite of the best efforts of the liberals.)

Remember it took an extremely long time for the anti vietnam war movement to become powerful. Any War would have to drag on for quite a while for a major anti-war movement to develop again. And for large number to flee the draft, it would require a large anti-war movement to encourage/justify fleeing the country to avoid a draft. I don't think that most people wouldn't do it on their own.

There's no need to reinstate the draft, so the point is moot. U.S. military doctrine doesn't call for large numbers of infantry, who would be the quickest to train. There's no way to push enough people through training to become pilots, Green Berets, technicians, linguists, or mechanics to be of use in time.

The military doesn't need more people, it needs money for spare parts, training, new weapons, and reorganization. Extra personnel now would be fat where we need muscle.

And if we can´t kill all enemies, we´ve to change their minds so that they aren´t enemies anymore.

That´s a problem related to the Islamic world.

I won´t go so far to say that fighting against terrorism is a war. The terrorists bear no weapons or uniforms, there`s no hint that they`re combatands. They´re partisans but no combatands, therefore, when captured, they´re not to be treated as POW. They´re criminals, nothing more.

I'd say 'Because they are mudereous tyrants.' Murdereous tyranny predates Communism by millenia. In no way are they kinder and gentler for having discarded communism, and I think we'd be better off had they not, given the gross ineffeciency of that system. But to call a spade a spade, their government has evolved from brutal communism into brutal fascism.

And my son will be one of them. And I guess when our sons are blown off the map, it will open up more room for the illegals and the h1bs. Bush's little business pals must be giddy about this.

But I'm a mother. And so I'll go on telling my son how proud I am he answered duty's call. How proud I am that he is so patriotic and willing to sacrifice for the good of his country. I hated Clintoon and Bush scares me. They're both just part of the ruling class.

BTW, I am proud of my son. He's an honor roll student at college and joined the National Guard so that he could afford to eat and go to school. He's always been a hero -- always helped those weaker than himself. If all of the men and women going over there are anything like my son, then we have our nation's very best in uniform. My prayers are with them all.
