Check this analysis out!

Lesson from WW II: fixed defenses are easy to circumvent. If I were DPRK, I'd try to "leap" over/around the DMZ and take over the rest of SK first beginning with Seoul first. Deal with DMZ afterwards: NBC.

The ideal time for DPRK's NBC blitzkrieg is during a "bogdown" of US forces in Iraq. Look to happen 4-6 weeks into Iraq II---should it last that long.

Attacking Iraq will leave us open on that flank. Their odds of success still won't be good, but they'll likely never have as good a shot again. Every general in North Korea must be thinking, "If there ever was a time when this idiot plan of invading the South were to work, it would be now, while the U.S. is tied down elsewhere."

Not to say that we shouldn't attack Iraq, just that we should keep an eye on Junior while we do.

Who gives a crap about South Korea? They all hate our guts there anyway. Let those commie bastard "students" who riot against us do the fighting and dying. Our "relationship" is a one way street. We build things there and give them jobs, we import Kia's and Hyundai's. They import oil from the Arabs, plastic crap from China, and nothing from us. Now this new punk ass "President" over there is pissed at us too. I say to hell with them. We can nuke the whole peninsula when its all over.

I like your analysis. However, I think they'll circumvent the DMZ another way. They've infiltrated spies, saboturers, and special forces into the South. These fifth columnists will strike at strategic points cutting the South Korean and US forces into shreds. The South Koreans will leave a skeleton garrison at the DMZ to deal with internal situation and then the NKs will cross. We'll dispatch reenforcements and drive the North out. Nazi China will then reenforce their fellow Commies and who knows from there.

Very good point. The fifth column is already in full force. Did you see the recent burning of that huge American flag? I suspect that is the work of the fifth column already in place and active among the easily dupped South Korean students.

Totally agree with your assessment that Iraq II--if it gets the US bogged down--will be the only one or two chances that the North will have to launch their blitzkrieg. The other time might be a PRC attack on Taiwan. Would the US 7th fleet pull south to defend Taiwan? What about a 3-front war: 250,000 US troops somehow bogged down in Iraq, NK launches southward, PRC attacks Taiwan--at the same time? Add to that the on-going terrorist activities of al-Qaida and we have a WW III (or IV depending on whether one counts the "Cold War" as WW III).

do the nkoreans have food and fuel to run their army? do the soldiers even care? look for them to get their rear ends kicked by the US and skorean troops already there

We should prepare for every contingency, but, like you, I don't see North Korean infantry doing much south of the DMZ--their first inclination will be to surrender and seek asylum, and then get a hot meal and a bath.

North Korea has about 500 long-range artillery tubes within range of Seoul, double the levels of a the mid-1990s. The North Korean navy has also deployed 430 surface combatants and about 60 percent of some 90 submarine combat vessels near the front line in forward bases. With about 40 percent of its 790 fighter planes

Bill Clinton's 8 years in office produced the biggest vacation for thugs and terrorists the world has ever known. He permitted massive buildup in N Korea's armaments at the same time he cut ours to ribbons, while conducting Tailhook and Gays in the Military attacks on morale.

To paraphrase Manchurian Candidate, if Clinton were a paid Soviet agent, he could not possibly have done any more harm to the United States than what he accomplished. Damn him and his sycophant soccer mom supporters all to hell.

Decent analysis. I guess the time has come to cut off their food and oil. Let them eat plutonium.

If the U.S. backs down on North Korea, every tin-pot dictator in the world will put the objective of obtaining a nuke on the front burner.

Aren't the Islamofascists ruling Iran doing that very thing right now?

From the State of the Union speech:

Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.

Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.

---------------------------------------------------

Amazing how right he was.

I see a lot of activity moving away from US and into the gulf regions. Maybe this is a stupid question but.........what are we leaving around close by to defend our shores besides the missile defence system that maybe is still in trial?

I don't think your question is stupid. I've wondered if we're being set up by a coalition of terrorists. Its something to make you nervous about. BUT, Thank God most households in the USA have some form of weapon and know how to use them. Whats that saying that Chuck Heston always uses?

My dad was a POW for over two years in the Korean conflict. He experienced first-hand what losing your freedom to the enmy is like, seeing many of his buddies killed or starve to death.
I believe he would do whatever it took to make sure he and his fellow Americans do not lose our freedom to the enemy. The President's number one job is to protect the safety and freedom of the citizens, whatever it takes. The concern must be the welfare of America, not the concerns of our "friends" in the U.N.

Thank God for real men like your dad. I think there are enough real men in the United States that we may get roughed up but never taken out. I think the UN should be abolished as it takes way too much of our tax dollars that could be used for other worthwhile causes. Plus its a big waste of brain cells trying to negiotiate with stupid people.

Jackie, long time no see. If you are worried about an invasion, stop worrying. They can't get here from there. The logistical problems are too great. They would need thousands of troop carrying ships and supply ships to do it. The US Navy would never allow thousands of ships to head this way. Now, terrorists already here, is a different story.
