It will be interesting to see whether the Abraham Lincoln actually heads home to Washington State as scheduled.

Brent Baier on FOX News said another carrier (besides the GW) may get put on alert soon (a week). Could be the Lincoln.

There should be some way to utilize your carrier mos skills in a reserve unit. Then if you are needed, they can call you up!

Good luck!

My cousin is attached to the Kitty Hawk in Japan. It's kept there year round because of it's proximity to China/NK. The Kitty Hawk will be the first deployed to NK, with others to follow as it is smaller and the only non-nuke carrier in the fleet. When the Kitty Hawk goes, we know we are beginning to ramp up for NK.

Jackass North Koreans did this about a week ago. It was in the area north of Paju (county), near the DMZ. Both North and South crews are working there to finish the railway connecting the two. The North Koreans brought in light machineguns in violation of introducing them into the MDL area....and were chewed out by the UN for doing so.

As I said three weeks ago, I think they will next try a naval provocation in the Yellow Sea, near Kanghwa-do province (island). They want to get the South into a shooting war, then blame Seoul, and then under the pretext of national defense, start skirmishes elsewhere.

How long does a ship of this magnitude usually stay in port at home once it does return?

Why not just leave it over there, if they are going to turn it around this quickly? There will hardly be time to get it cleaned up, get all the toilets cleaned out and the needed repairs and repainting done, or am I missing something?

They've attempted to do that many times before. They like to probe SK, just to keep things stirred up.

The first strike is doable, IMHO. The problem is, how do we follow-up on Yongbyong if the first strike doesn't do the job? Its position near the coast would render it vulnerable to any big-gun warship, which could conduct a follow-up bombardment if needed.

Problem is, we don't have any big-gun warships in service presently.

Okay, so the machine guns in the DMZ story isn't as relevant as it looked, at first. I mean, it isn't happening today and it wasn't (apparently) related to the IAEA inspectors.

Whew! I think...

It's still working, as the only forward deployed carrier in the fleet. Mostly stays in Japan, unless something breaks in the far east.

GW was sure right on target with his axil of evil speech, wasn't he? I remember that all the libs were bitching and moaning about Iran and North Korea being included, and how they couldn't connect the dots...

There are others on this thread that know better than I, but I was always under the understanding that a turn-around on a carrier group was at minimum 30 days.

Its position also makes it vulnerable to airstrikes.

And there's every possibility of your battleship emptying the magazines and needing to reline the bores--without scoring a single hit.
