You didn't ask me,but,I would simply say I rely on my own personal faith. There is no great need to prove the existence of souls to others, except in the context of trying to help save theirs from eternal damnation.

On your original "orderly family" point;I prefer dealing with the sometimes unruly teenagers we raised as opposed to having a "master race" of teens bowing or saluting as I enter a room.

The headline was misspelled -- instead of "immortality", it should have been "immorality". As to the rest, who wants in on an IPO for a company that will use the Human Genome code to uncover the basis for memory, then through a consortium with cloning firms, provide a basis for true immortality via memory transfer? As a side benefit, all those sending at least $1,000 (cash only, gold only, no paper) get 1% ownership in the Brooklyn Bridge, and an option on sea front property in Nebraska!

I figured it out. We're going to clone our next Social Security payors. Problem solved!

>>>Before you can transplant parts of an adult brain, the clone would have the grow up until he is adult right? Don't you think this person might have some objections when told that his brain is going to be removed and replaced by that of another person?<<<

Actually the brain has completed most of its growth by birth, right? We start to swiftly lose brain cells soon thereafter. I'm not sure the brain transplant couldn't take place right at birth, for example. Many would seek to transplant their brains once their cloned version is more mature, but this raises murder-oriented concerns like the one you raised. Even the "tranplant my brain to a baby me" approach is far from ideal, but so is leaving folks to die.

To my knowledge, nobody would try to stop you from reproducing in the more traditional way then.

I don't understand the hysteria regarding cloning. Medical progress continues through research and development. If it is perfected, you can clone yourself, or NOT, if you have a moral or other objections? So, why the clergy, or the politicians are interfering with medical research?

Today, there is a Lasik operation on the eyes that takes 10 minutes, and you never need glasses for the rest of your life. Less than 10% of the people took advantage of that. The hysteria about cloning is simply caused by a bunch of ignorant science fiction type writers. Just remember, we could have had 75% of our electric power from nuclear, and became energy independent 25 years ago if it was not for idiots who read science fiction and tell the stupid population that we are going to glow in the dark from the radiation exposure. France gets 75% of its power from nuclear energy, and it has been proven safe for many generations. Journalists, who flunked science in high school, have no business to dictate opinions on the unsuspected masses.

News conference was short and is over now. Independent journalist has been selected to verify claims. More to come in the next week.

While the genome inclusion may be off-base, the rest of your query does seem to reflect a potential trend on Wall Street. Especially with our country's aging baby-boomers.

Fundraising and attention-seeking, perhaps?

Murder is murder, no matter what the age. And humans are supposed to die, it is part of life.

I wasn't aware that France's percentage is so high, although Taiwan's reportedly is comparable. Regardless, your example helps demonstrate how OTHER countries will take the lead and sell services to our citizens if companies in the USA don't.

Hopefully the journalist is truly independent, and competent. Incidentally, when I tried to visit http://www.clonaid.com the site was down. How we're to learn more is presently beyond me.

A medical doctor recently lost his license in the United Kingdom, I believe it was, for saying something like that to cancer patients.

You can't explain the "soul". From the evil I've seen in this world, it is obvious that there are those who have been born without one.

So I guess you win the argument.

The journalist says he worked at ABC for 14 years and was their science editor for at least a portion of that time. "No strings attached and independent labs will conduct tests" according to him.

So do you think it is right, to clone a child, when it is doomed to die from the same cancer that it's "host" died from?

Thanks. Meanwhile, is there a website from which we can efficiently learn of the results? Also, where did you get to see the news conference...online?

Please notice the "genetic modifications" part of my original hypothetical.

Do you believe that this group who cloned this child is actually representing "Aliens" who visited the earth and wanted them to clone this child?

FoxNews or CNN. I was surfing, think they both had it. On CNN right now they are discussing an alien, as in spaceman, connection to this thing. All the markings of a hoax are jumping out.
