I think if you are homosexual, anything goes.
Hence, the "riddle" has no meaning for homosexuals.

The way I understand it is that the rule is different in different parts of the country, or it was like 20 years ago ... it doesn't really have any meaning today.

But you can always play it safe and just wear a nose ring, LOL.
