No. I live in Dallas. This:

" from the high-rises of Dallas, where businessmen wear cowboy boots and string ties, ",

proves this idiot has never been to Dallas. I see those outfits at costume parties, and that's about it.

I think this was written by a Californian, trying to understand Texas. He'll never "get" it.

Only real Texans understand Texas.

True. I've rarely seen such dress day in and day out. It simply isn't like that at all.

Maybe you just saw some visitors from Fort Worth. Were they carrying sack lunches so they did not have to buy lunch in Dallas?

I was at the gunshow at Market Hall a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a group of people greeting someone. One person out of the group reached out and shook the guy's hand and said, "Welcome to George W. Bush's Texas".

Well, not really. Bush isn't the champion of Gun Rights I would like him to be but it sounded good.

Very true.... Dallas has often been called the "Manhattan of the Southwest". We don't wear bolo ties, ostrich skin boots, and ten gallon hats in Dallas. That's Houston.

My Husband has to confess to the cowboy boots, though. He's in his early thirties, and he does business in downtown Dallas regularly with a pretty high-tone clientel; he ONLY wears cowboy boots (nice ones). His clients wear cowboy boots with their three-piece suits, too. I think men like cowboy boots because they hide mismatched socks... ;)

He has also been known to wear a bolo tie on "casual Fridays".

I gotta say, the last place I saw a string tie was at a black tie wedding reception at a Dallas Country Club lasts month... actually looked pretty cool with tails!

He could not have been in Texas lately and did not do much research. Here are a few things for his "poor people and at risk in Texas section. We have a county hospital system that gives our more than 1 BILLION dollars in free health care.

Yesterday while everyone news station was compalining, Channel 8 in Dallas announced that the people gave 75,000 toys to it's childrens charity for 46,000 people.

In Dallas every single homeless shleter program and the best violence against women program in the country are run by the churches. No government funds are necessary, just people helping.

There are plenty of well run programs for recycling done by volunteers. Some of the largest organic companies in the country are in Texas including Whole Foods grocery and all the companies following Malcom Becks, San Antonio based Gardenville program.

The dumb bozo's comment on the Ft Worth museums also shows that he did not walk into the Kimbell Art musuem, The Amon Carter or the Bass performance hall. Each of these was created with private money and supported by the public without the need of taxes as their primary funding. Texas schools are ahead of Calif, NY and lots of other states with kids of all colors scoring at similar leveles on state exams.
