My Husband has to confess to the cowboy boots, though. He's in his early thirties, and he does business in downtown Dallas regularly with a pretty high-tone clientel; he ONLY wears cowboy boots (nice ones). His clients wear cowboy boots with their three-piece suits, too. I think men like cowboy boots because they hide mismatched socks... ;)

He has also been known to wear a bolo tie on "casual Fridays".

I gotta say, the last place I saw a string tie was at a black tie wedding reception at a Dallas Country Club lasts month... actually looked pretty cool with tails!

Dande, I've been living here in the Metroplex for almost 7 years, and I can't recall seeing more than a couple of bolos. As far as the boots go, I think it's because a good pair of boots are very easy on the feet.

As to men and mismatched socks, I'll have to defer to your wisdom. ;^)

I've lived in Texas for over 20 years, and there is a definite can-do spirit here. I live in Valley Ranch, and I see that attitude on most everybody in my community, be they white, black, brown, green, purple.

Speaking of schools, my sister visited from Oakland, CA a few years back. Her jaw dropped when she saw our schools and resources for our kids. She also remarked pointedly how everybody was so friendly here.

I could go on, but I've gotta get back to work. Texas has been very good to me, and I'm proud to be a naturalized Texan.

I used to get ticked off reading such simplistic articles that try and capture the essence of Texas. Now, I just shrug them off, and move on down the road.
