BALTIMORE - The BB gun, like the classic Red Ryder celebrated in a popular holiday film, is a traditional Christmas gift that has always come wrapped in a certain risk. Now the toy carries a threat that has nothing to do with putting an eye out: a $500 fine and two months in jail.

Hey, Baltimoreans!

I thought that they were "Baltimorons" - didn't the majority of them vote for the Kennedy witch?

Beat me to it. Reminds me...there's a MaryLander over on smirkingChimp whose cage I haven't rattled for awhile. He was hell bent on the destruction of Conservatism when last we conversed. I wonder how that's comin' along.

"Why not outlaw robbing and stabbing?"

Nah, that would just be treating the symptoms of a much bigger problem--the proliferation of BB guns!!!

Baltimore residents who would buy BB guns probably displayed a modicum of common sense and voted for Ehrlich...

I wonder what they would have done with the 20 gauge I got for my 14th?

"I can build a gun from a radio antenna, a block of wood, a nail, a rubber band, black tape, and a cloths pin. A .22 cal bullet just fits. We called them zip guns when we were kids."

Hey!

You are an "old fart"!

Me too!

I suppose you made a belt buckle with the fender emblem from a Ford V8 too? ;)

When I was a kid, I killed at least 150 ducks and 50 coots along with an unknown number of 3 toads with my pellet gun.....all for the sheer enjoyment of it....I also did a number on insects with my magnifying glass and sunlight.....

ahhh, those were the days.

I got my first 22 when I was 12.

The solution is to outlaw dumb parents who don't teach proper gun saftey, and don't teach good morals to their children.

Illegal aliens and middle-eastern terrorists have Constitutional rights, but not kids born in Baltimore. Are there any conservative men in Baltimore with more balls? I am pretty sure there is federal district court there where they could contest this by filing for an injunction. And city governments do not have sovereign immunity.

Nope. Nothing "Ford" allowed around our place. My dad was an Oldsmobile man. I did however make a scooter out of a strap-on skate and the wood from a beer case...

When it broke I invented the first skateboard. That was in 1958, way ahead of the craze. I got no credit of course.

As far as the "old fart" comment-- I guess I'll ignore it, my age is top secret! (over 50 under 100)

Well, when I was a kid I used my BB gun to shoot the asses of worthless cretins who liked to hurt animals. Never got in trouble for it, either.

I assure you it wasn't a slur.

You see, I'm from the "crop" of '41 and knew we were kinsmen.

Yes sir! Skate boards from old metal skates and if we found a baby carriage tossed in the garbage, we took it home and made a car, wagon, or something out of it.

We had some fun.

Last weekend I saw a bumper sticker:

Oh yeah baby! The old soap box car going a zillion mph down the hill!(With no breaks save a wooden lever to rub against one wheel)

Now how about this one– going around the neighborhood and construction sites picking up pop bottles for 2 cents each to get into the 25 cent movie? My dad used to tell me about nickle movies, and I swore back then that I would never talk that way when I got old(er). Now look at me.

We used to ride our bikes everywhere! When I was a mere lad of 5 I would ride the L in Chicago with my older brother of 10 to Cominsky Park. No adults needed. Hell a kid cannot even play in the yard alone now! They even need adults to supervise their baseball games. My grand kids have never just gotten together to play ball they always have coaches!

Oh, oh. I am an old fart...

Yeah, everybody knows that BB guns are the biggest threat to American society these days. Every other problem has been eradicated, so it's time to clamp down on those airgun-toting miscreants. *sigh*

Guard: "That's not a real gun, is it, Clark?"

Clark: "Sure it is... it's a 'Magnum, P.I.'"

Guard: "That thing wouldn't even break the skin!"

Clark: "Yes it could. It... it could lodge under the skin and cause a very bad infection!"
