The same reason that the 55 mph speed limit fell into disfavor. It is an unpopular law that will eventully have to be repealed. The alternative is a police state, although some people believe we are already there. The politicos will inevitably try to make examples of some people in an attempt to put force behind the law, i.e. Waco & Ruby Ridge but it will fail.

I know people in CA that have everything to lose, family, home, good job, etc. and they have basically taken an FU attitude to the gun registration and government in general. Nothing like a good unpopular law to take the commie pigs out of office. It worked for Bezzele Bubba in 1994.
