DEDHAM - A local man police described as a gun fanatic was arrested Tuesday after police confiscated 24 firearms and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition and gunpowder from his home.
Police arrested William Doherty, 54, of 42 Woodleigh Road at 9:30 a.m., after an investigation led by Officer Bobby Walsh uncovered Doherty was in possession of the guns without a license.
Doherty was released pending charges later that day and police are consulting with the District Attorney's office to ensure proper charges are filed.
Armed with a search warrant, police found an assortment of revolvers, pistols, rifles and shotguns along with gunpowder and the ammunition.
Police said Doherty was not properly licensed to possess the guns and said additional charges may be brought against him. In addition to police, members of the ATF, bomb squad and Fire Department arrived at Doherty's home.
"If he had a Class A license to carry he would have been within his legal right to have those guns," said Walsh, who questioned why someone would need such a large amount of ammunition.
"His possession of all the powder is considered a misdemeanor," he said. "They're still his guns if he wants them once he gets licensed."
Walsh said Doherty by law could authorize the guns to be turned over to a licensed firearms dealer for storage until that time.
Police said it also appeared Doherty was running an illegal tattoo parlor from his home and admitted to having responded to several calls for service to his home in the past.
Other department members who participated in the investigation include Lt. Mike Weir, Detectives Dan Panciocco, Bob Dietenhofer, Ken Jones, Martin Fitzhenry, and Officer Frank McMillan.

In some states, Yes.
Local Police, FBI, ATF et al. It seems that inorder to justify their thuggery against Joe citizen exercising his Second Ammendment right they always tag the person or persons with an adjective that sets them apart from the rest. Even to this day when Randy Weaver is mentioned in the media he's always tagged with "THE SEPARATIST". In my mind that's just proof that the authorities still won't admit that they themselves broke the law, even after paying Weaver $3 million in damages for murdering his wife and son. Well, the Nazis used to wear the badges. What comes to mind when you hear the word Nazi?? When instances such as this Doherty case occur maybe Joe and Jane citizen should at that point tag that agency and paticular individuals with an adjective that puts them in the same light as the Nazis, thus sparating them from the rest. Who knows, maybe they would be proud to be associated with a like term as "Nazi", but word gets around and eventually they will be known as the separatists. If officers such as Bob Walsh weren't such good Nazis, they would do what is right and truely uphold their oath to our Constitution.
In Washington, District of Criminals, you'd feel lucky to be able to get a license to have a gun in your house. Especially one that you could actually use for self defense.
"No handgun can be legally possessed in the District unless it is registered. All handguns registered in the District prior to Sept. 24, 1976, were required to have been reregistered by Feb. 5, 1977. After that date, no more handguns could be registered .
Thus, it is unlawful to possess, acquire, or bring into D.C. any handgun which was not registered as of Feb. 5, 1977."
That's for handguns, the requirements for having a long guns are only slightly less onorous, and still make you want to puke.
"Carrying a handgun in the District is prohibited. All firearms are to be kept at one's home or place of business.
All firearms must be unloaded and disassembled or locked with a trigger lock except when kept at a registrant's place of business or while being used for lawful "recreational" purposes. A D.C. license to carry a pistol is needed for one's home or business and the pistol must also have been registered prior to September 24, 1976.
Self-defense in one's home with a firearm is therefore legally precluded."
If you ate something that didn't aggree with you and need to purge, see NRA-ILA synsopis of D.C. Firearms Laws, from which the quotes above were taken. As you can see the Second Amendment doesn't apply in the nation's capitial. One wonders how much of the rest of the Constitution doesn't apply there. (Other than by its own terms that is)
What is the basis for federal agents to be involved? The lack of a license, as unconsitutional as it may be, is merely a state issue.
(We all know what the answer is...)
You can check on a state by state basis at the NRA-ILA. This includes separate entries for NEW YORK CITY (Get A Rope!) and Washington City.
Reference: Gun Owners' Action League. Sure sounds like they need an action league.
As to the Republican governor, a Massachusetts Republican is not normally what you would find in the dictionary under mainstream conservative. Even if that's not the case with Mitt Romney, he has an overwhelmingly Democrat legislature with which to contend.
Really? So you have actually tried this?
