The notion of a U.S. senator singing the praises of Osama bin Laden is too far-fetched to take seriously, right?
Wrong.
Here's the Columbian of Vancouver, Wash., describing a speech by Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.) to a group of southern Washington state high-school students:
Murray concluded the session by challenging the students to consider alternatives to war.
"We've got to ask, why is this man (Osama bin Laden) so popular around the world?," said Murray, who faces re-election in 2004. "Why are people so supportive of him in many countries . . . that are riddled with poverty? "He's been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities, and the people are extremely grateful. We haven't done that.
"How would they look at us today if we had been there helping them with some of that rather than just being the people who are going to bomb in Iraq and go to Afghanistan?"
Coming next: Patty Murray describes how Hitler built the Autobahn.
Actually, it's true that bin Laden financed some road construction in Sudan, back when that was the headquarters of his terror network, but Murray must have a screw loose if she thinks al Qaeda has been building "day care facilities." What, to cater to all the fundamentalist Muslim families in which the husband and all four wives have to work?
Murray, by the way, was until recently a member of the Democratic Senate leadership. She served as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in the 107th Congress.

To quote Bob Dole, "Where's The Outrage?"
Oh, I forgot... she's a Democrat, there will be no outrage. Now, if she were a Republican...
On the other hand, Thank God she isn't; the Dems can have her.
Unreal. She really needs to be made a laughingstock, if nothing else. There should be a move in the Senate to censure her for such a stupid comment, one that, by the way, is demonstrably false.
< /sarcasm>
Just another liberal using the "other" to show how we are really the bad guys, even if the facts are wrong, or in Patty's case, hallucinatory.
Yep, she's hallucinating. Osama building schools...Patty will be endlessly quoted as the "proof" that Osama is not such a bad guy. If an American Senator said this, it must be true, no?
How noble.
Better yet, Freepers who live in States with Republican Senators should be writing their Senators demanding they do so.
Now lets peel the onion back a little. Islamicists hold to the notion that the head of all government is Allah. Therefore, the leaders of mosques are often the defacto government in many areas.
The ONLY leaders that Bin Laden supported, the ONLY schools (madras) that he built, the ONLY roads that he built and ALL charity the he employed, were to further his world view and to fulfill his religious duty.
So he built a school? He built it to train thousands of very fundamentalists kids as a future army to overthrow all non-Islamicist governments. BTW, his schools are closer to a religious version of communist reeducation centers of the past.
So he built roads? So did Mao and the VC. Everything he has done is with the purpose of buying influence, buying government officals, buying safety, and paying bribes. He built homes for widows? Only for widows of veterans who fought against the Soviets. He built an orphanage? Well, Saddam pays for Palestinians kiddies to blow themselves up, and then pays the parents because they "lost" a son.
And she is dumb enough to pretend that there are ANY "day-care centers" in Taliban run areas? What a fool. She is only trying to Anglicize an totally non-Western world.
