Metro in Brief: (D.C.) Police Detail Surveillance for (Anti-War and Pro-Life) Rallies

D.C. police announced yesterday that they will put up temporary surveillance cameras next month during anti-war rallies and during an antiabortion demonstration.

During the war protests, scheduled for Jan. 17-19, police said, they will put extra cameras in Farragut Square, Malcolm X Park, the north end of Dupont Circle in Northwest, the Marine Barracks at Eighth and I streets SE and along the proposed march route from the Capitol to the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast.

On Jan. 22, during the antiabortion event, police said, they will put up additional cameras along Constitution Avenue NW and outside the U.S. Supreme Court.

Police also have 14 permanent cameras around downtown that are activated during large demonstrations, as well as a camera mounted on the department's helicopter.

Exactly. And I think their threat to "shut down the city" was a threat to do unlawful behavior (although perhaps not violent unlawful behavior).

You're right about one thing: the closure rate on murder is *disgustingly* low.

Yeah, but you guys have some of the most well-nourished rats in the nation, of the two and the four-legged variety.

Damn, they'll probably catch a murder on them in this city if they keep 'em on long enough.

You seem to be forgetting, FTH, that they couldn't find Gore War Vet's truck when it was supposedly parked for two weeks within pistol shootin' range of the Chief's own office. You are an eternal optimist, kiddo.

I bet they're there to collect "intelligence." I think this kind of effort's probably more intense after 9/11.

The DC police appears to be just another group using 9/11 to further their own agenda. Those of you in DC going to the rally, why don't you take video cameras and videotape the police?

The D.C. Chapter has great relations with officers in the various law enforcement agencies in D.C. We don't want to make them suffer because of their superiors. We'll deal with it somehow.

Having participated in and lead hundreds of demonstrations small and large for the last four years, I have to say that, yes, it is the decision of the protesters and organizers if they get beaten or teargassed.

I've witnessed all kinds of demonstrations and can tell you that at least in D.C., you get what you play for.

Re why don't we videotape the police? Well, it gets silly. We're there to counterprotest. The US Park Police that stand by us are very good and nice. Inevitably, they're close enough so that they're in some of our photos anyway.

ROFL. Good response to onetimeatbandcamp. Sounds like a sarcastic infiltrator. And *yet* he/she has a point: it IS a tactical decision the left makes.

I remember lurking at DU and reading a post by someone complainign that they were "used" by the Anti-Capitalist Convergence and that the ACC had been planning and in fact LIKED that mass arrest that happened when they tried to shut down the city. Then the ACC can try to radicalize the leftists further and yabber about police brutality just 'cause they all got arrested. Well, anyway, there was one sentient leftist I remember saying: hey, they used me, they basically *wanted* us all to get arrested and they didn't share their grand plan of civil disobedience with us ahead of time.

Exactly, sheeple. These civil disobedience things are orchestrated. It's hilarious they call themselves anarchists -- it's top-down, share-no-information highly structured law breaking and the leaders decide when and where. That's what it looks like to me, anyhow.

In case it's not obvious, onetimeatbandcamp is lost. He/she's recently posted a comment questioning how one knows that Marx isn't, after all, correct: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/809559/posts?page=17#17

bbbbut they are anarchists, right???

After all, why can't a large group of people from all over the country who do not know each other spontaneously goto the same place at the same time to do the same thing where it would get the maximum publicity? ;-)

Hey, it could happen.

Over and over and over again.

And they could all coincidentally wear the same clothes.

And they could all design their Molotov cocktails the same way.

I was at the "Free Tibet" concert at JFK stadium when that girl got hit by lightening. 'Cause I think Communist China should get out of Tibet. So I know that strange things do happen. (I was basically at that concert with the same generation that's doing all this anarchist bullcrap. I have to tell you, they dress alike, talk alike, used the same drugs, danced the same. LOL -- worse excuse for "anarchists" I ever did see.)

nah, I surfed a lot of your posts.

You're a total lefty.

Whatever -- waste you're time at a conservative website being disruptive. It's weird but hey, it's your time.

You didn't read the account of the people in DC, including bunches of passerbys

LOL, the only place that has THAT account is DU, onetimeatbandcamp. Please go back to it. Look, lucky for you I'm not in the mood to do a nice compendium of quotes of your other posts with your loving references to Chavez and communism and Marxism. Find another place to play or make me bother to submit the compendium to the Admin Moderator.

But of course than you'll just want a new name so you can, um, what? exactly, post liberal and sarcastic stuff on a conservative website? And pat yourself on the back for being the only "right" person here? It's weirdly narcisstic behavior, but then, again, we are discussing the left.

Ah, yes, the people trampled upon and arrested for no reason. The same ones that had announced they were there to shut down the city and they weren't going to get the parade permits. Then they whine that they didn't get 3 verbal warnings first and complain about the bologna sandwiches. Really tough white rich college kids. LOL. I didn't have to read about 'em -- half the city saw it and we were all laughing at the fools. Happy to hear they're dong a lawsuit complaining that they, who have absolutely no medical records to support the claim, were all brutalized. I hope each and every one of them ends up paying lawyers' fees.

Tell you what, Martin Luther King didn't do civil disobedience in this whiney, finger-pointing kinda way. Y'all have too much $ and time.

This onetimeatbandcamp -- what a *clever* name -- is lucky I'm playing speed chess on another network or I'd take time out of my business web schedule to smush him.

Why don't the police put the cameras where people are actually breaking the law

Because the central gov. has vested itself in legalized baby shredding. Thus all central gov. agents of force recognize that they are the guardians of the abortion slaughter and enemies of those that think baby shredding is evil. And if they are our enemies, then we are their enemies and they, having fear in their hearts, feel compelled to monitor, control, intimidate and neutralize anti-abortion/prolifers. Which is most of federal law enforcements mandate in general anyway, protect the gov. that hired you.
