I remember being 16 or 17 and being disgusted with the music that was popular like Blacksmith Blues, and Love me or Leave me! Such tripe. Followed by Joni James, Kay Star, etc, who were great. The fall of Martin Block and the rise of Dick Clark. But it was a great time to be a kid.
Foot ball games with big parades if there was a win. The parades went from the playing field to the center of town. No riots, no civil disobedience, no vandalism, just fun. Paries and Halloween and school dances and neat boyfriends who were going to Notre Dame and to play soccer who drove 1948 Olds convertable coupe, red with leopard seat covers.
The sweet shoppe after school, cherry, vanilla or chocolate cokes and burgers. The hangout that all parents objected to. The girlfriends, some of whom you still know today. The slumber parties and insane giggling. Being boycrazy and it was ok. But watch out for the guys with their cigarettes rolled up in their T Shirt Sleeve, A La Hollywood bad boys, like James Dean and Marlon Brando. Having your date pick you up by knocking on the door and actually talking to your parents. Home by 11 PM or else!
My father used to sit in the kitchen and whistle "Retreat"!
I never treated my parents like the kids that grew up in the 60s. I know I had some. It was a nightmare for us who had no training for this sort of thing. The entire country felt that way.

The girlfriends, some of whom you still know today.I married one of them at 20. She was 19. We have lots of kids and grandkids and twins are on the way (Grandkids that is...) That's the way it was done, and it has LOTS to say for itself. Wife never had to work, and still doesn't. But come Christmas with Grandkids coming you'd never know it!
