James Carville just read a letter on CNN that he wrote to Lott accepting his apology because he said he spoke to John Lewis about it. He said that Lewis convinced him that nothing would ever be done about race relations if we kept up the crusade against Trent Lott.

And there you have it.

The leftists just woke up to the fact that Lott is quite likely to be pitched over the railing due to *conservative* pressure, and that isn't what they had in mind. Hamstrung, yes. Cluelessly contrite and apologizing endlessly and lethally for imagined Republican racism, absolutely. Dumped without ceremony and replaced by a principled conservative? Uh, well, maybe this thing has gone a bit too far.

It was important to lose Lott before. Now it's imperative.
