Sorry, gang, forgot to jot down the web address for this place. But here's how to get there:

www.bbc.com > entertainment > towards the bottom of the page you'll see this story> at the bottom of the story is a form (of sorts) to nominate your own "best song in the world".

My favorite? Like most folks that changes all the time. Right now I'm grovin' on St. James Infirmary w/ Cab Calloway & Louis Armstrong. "I went down to St. James Infirmary. Saw my baby there..."

Actually, my favorite song right now is Hank Williams III cover of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice."

It is just the weirdest greatest honkytonk jam I've ever heard.

An oddball suggestion:

"Happy Birthday" (lots of happy memories)

Other classics:
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (Mozart)
"Ode to Joy"
"Simple Gifts"

Suprised that Nina Simone had a song in his list. She is
probably the most under appreciated singer of all time. Anyone who thinks she doesn't have a sexy voice is more tone deaf than me.

I'd glad I lucked into the top of what promises to be a very long thread, if past experience is any indicator. I would have to go with "American Pie", with Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" coming in second and Count Basie's "Dont get around much anymore" finishing up third. I will admit, though, that picking one or even three "best songs" is pretty much impossible. I was suprised not to see "Yesterday" mentioned by anyone in the article, seeing as how it's the most recorded song of all time.

SUNRISE SUNSET from Fiddler on the Roof..

Turn around and she's two
Turn around and she's four
Turn around she's a young girl
Going out of the door.....
Where are you going
My little one, little one
Where are you going
My darling my own
Turn around and she's two
Turn around and she's grown
Turn around and she's a young wife
With babes of her own....

Or something like that....
OK I am going to go kiss my 19 year old daughter now and find a hanky. I already told her yesterday THANK YOU FOR BEING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! She said thank you for not getting a divorce ever. I said thank you for not getting on drugs, being in jail, or pregnant in jr. high. She said or joining a cult and running off to Mexico...
We went on and on with our grateful thank yous.....
She is a lovely young woman. I am pleased and proud. And she is the most gorgeous on earth!!!!!!!!!!
