'Twasn't Ever Thus -- Britain is the world leader in very little, except for crime.

LONDON -- Britain is now the world leader in very little, with the single possible exception of crime.

Recent figures published by the U.N. show that Britain is now among the most crime-ridden countries in the world: Its citizens are much more likely to be attacked or robbed on the street, or have their houses burgled, than their counterparts in, say, Russia or South Africa, let alone the U.S. Everyday experience in Britain is quite sufficient to establish that we now live in a deeply criminalized society.

He left out the real reson for the increase in crime there. The citizens have been disarmed.

Serves them right for banning guns from law-abiding citizens.

Perhaps the Brits like being like sheep, hoping that the wolf picks someone else for lunch today.

One of the pastors at our church spent ten years as a missionary in England, he refers to them as Post-Christian.

>>There is a reluctance on the part of the upper echelons of society to believe that the lower echelons are fully human, and therefore responsible for their own acts and decisions<<

And it is very important, in the debate here on affirmative action, to point out that aa partisanship clearly reveals exactly what the white left thinks of black people.

In every generation, there are a couple of percent who are pathologically criminal -- whether due to genetics or upbringing doesn't matter. England used to deal with them by exporting them to the southern Atlantic seaboard, then to Australia, and finally by pressing them into the Navy or enlisting them in the Army and sending them to kill or be killed in the colonies, e.g. Afghanistan. These relief mechanisms are no longer available to British society, and it will have to learn to cope.

The low rates of crime in England in the '50s reflected the fact that WW I and WW II had pretty well drained the pool of criminals.

It's not just the guns (though that's the biggest part), it's the immigration policies.

.."its the immigration policies"

Bingo. The UK has allowed itself to be overrun by third world assylum seekers who simply don't live according to the traditional more and values of polite British society. Unfortunately, due to the severe "emperor has no clothes" taboo surrounding debates about immigration....the real problem will not even be discussed, much less addressed. At some point in the future, the British people will wake up, look around, and say "my God...what has happened to my beloved nation?" That is when things will get interesting.

Ole Enoch Powell was right....he was just adhead of his time.

And that goes DOUBLE for the immigration pollyannas at the Wall Street Journal.

I've suggested we purchase Greenland from the Danes and use it for that purpose.

Less than half a century later, many people no more venture out after dark than Transylvanian peasants would go wandering while Dracula was at large, and once the sun has gone down, there is not an old person to be seen in public in Britain.

This is absolutely true. Last week, I had to step out after dark to get some groceries, and I live in a nice, middle-class area in London. No less than 4 people hit me up for change along the way. I am a reasonably tall (6 feet tall) and strong man, and I was carrying a large umbrella (In short, I could have beaten them up severely) - so I was left in peace. But, for an older person, or a lady, it would have been much more menacing.

The Labour Government needs to realise that a combination of disarming the populace and idiot socialist policies on crime are not succeeding. I dare say we need to bring back the rope for murderers and rapists. We need to allow citizens to defend themselves - whether by gun or otherwise. A concealed carry law would help, though I doubt you'll see too many British grannies carrying guns - rather I suspect young women would more take to it, and a few young women putting some holes in some muggers would make them think twice. Finally, the police need to be freed of the burden of political correctness - I've seen policemen having to take extra care in writing reports if a criminal was black. If he's black, so what, he's a criminal, and that makes him scum no matter his colour.

Just my take.

Regards, Ivan

Yea, but they have done a lot of good in many parts of the world that would otherwise be third world holes.

You're right, but not completely right. There are two reasons: (a) gun laws and (b) the acceptance of large numbers of people from Third World countries.
