"I remember the coastal plain on the mainland north of Galveston, Texas, where I was born. When I lived there as a girl in the 1950s, there were few trees or natural objects rising above the flat, low land. My father planted a few trees in our new yard to provide shade as did our neighbors, but the pine and oak forests were away to the east of us on the plain. The land itself lay at about sea level or rose a few feet above it. What did rise above the bayous and land? Why oil wells of course! And refineries, and houses on tall stilts, and the Causeway from the mainland to the Island. That structure did not rise high enough however, because whenever too-tall ships would pass through the Bay, up would go the center section, halting traffic (and restless children) for what seemed like hours. As a little girl, closer to home, I loved to be outside - even in the steambaths that passed for a Gulfcoast summer." You sound a little like my favorite ex-National Review writer, Florence King...MUD

Hello sistahs...
Sandy,,,hope you are better today...Hang in there, only three more workdays and then you are off to "One of the Places in Your Heart"-Fla.
Billie, since you are an almost life long resident of Texas, we certainly can surmise that "Texas is the Place in Your Heart"
Lori, missed you yesterday. Look forward to seeing you today and hearing about the Places in Your Heart.
A small town in Western New York is very dear to me. I will share more about it later.
And Molly Pitcher, thank you for sharing your heart with us today and for taking time out of your busy holiday schedule to write it all down for us...
Everyone, have a great day...Christmas is a coming....Won't be long now...

Thanks for sharing, Molly. I think those of us who grew up in the 50's all caused our Mother's to go gray early. There weren't so many dangers and we were allowed to roam and explore more than our own children were. It makes me shudder to think of the perils I survived.
Daisy,, a marvelous looking thread, as always. Thanks for helpling to keep it running.
Mud, I've never heard of any of these songs you're altering. Could you do one by Perry Como
:>)
