December 17, 2002 -- Religious tensions erupted yesterday after authorities confirmed that an Arab girl beat up a Jewish girl at a Brooklyn middle school.

The Arab teen was arrested and suspended for the Dec. 12 attack on the 13-year-old Jewish girl, an honors student, at IS 259 in Dycker Heights, sources said.

No more reason than I do. For all you and I know the Jewish girl got in the 1st and last punch. The only fact that we have is that there was an altercation and that one of the combatants is a Jew and one is Arab. The rest is hearsay. Why is this even news. This is bad reporting at best, and the reaction here says a lot. I know I am hitting some tender nerves because the name calling (not you) has begun.

In today's hyper sensitive environment to the privileged postions arabs and muslims have in America in anyone daring to say boo to them, the fact of her arrest is a pretty damning one.

No cops are going to want to deal with the bother and attention and media hype of an arrest like this unless they had some pretty good reasons to do so.

Being the media capital, this will probably gain a higher profile as the day progresses....Hardball, Fox, etc. Should be interesting.....

I would condemn the Arab girl's actions, but her being an Arab is irrelevant. Lets face it, if this was a person of no particular background beating up another person of no particular background, this story would not have been posted on FR. It is solely because it was an Arab beating up a Jew that it is here.

You and your ilk are the kind of person who can be mobilized against a race based upon what you selectively glean from external sources (media, etc.) based upon a pre-existing prejudice or what caters to your existing views. Oh my goodness! I'm a Texas born Presbyterian, but from 1961 to 1963 I beat up several Jewish boys, along with a couple of Catholics and a Methodist at PS 193 in Queens. I wonder if I'm in trouble?
