"I would love to see the Republicans replace Lott with JC Watts."
Won't work. The 'black caucus' would not let Watts into their group....He's not black enough for them. - Meaning anyone that is black enough has to pump the black agenda or they are considered to be an Uncle Tom.

What did Lott say, exactly? I seem to have missed the news the day this statement was made, and I certainly see all the hoopla it has caused, but I can't find, for the life of me, the exact quote. Can someone help me out?
Thanks.

Lott was just on NBC, saying he's going to co-sponsor a bill about the Emancipation Proclamation and he's talking housing, the works for blacks.
And he said he is NOT quitting.

Come on Trent. Quit groveling at these whiners. What are we afraid of? Think the Pubs will lose the African American vote? They might lose some of the 4 or 5% they're now getting. Big Joke, After all, one poll said that 75% of African Americans polled wanted him to quit. That means 25% wanted him NOT to quit - this is the best "approval rating" any Republican has had with African Americans since Lincoln.
Tell them to kiss where the sun don't shine and move on.

Espy would be an unmitigated disaster.

Dead on.

Well, Espy WAS cleared. End of story.

Who the hell do you think Rove is, Toesucker Morris?
He's no kingmaker.

And how do you stand up for Lott without being labeled a racist? I don't blame anyone but Lott for this mess. Maybe he should have pulled a clinton and went on national tv shaking his finger saying I did not have racism in my heart. Lotts main problem is in not realizing his fat mouth attack was not just a problem for him it is a problem for all Republicans. How does a black Republican justify staying in the party? Right now we just need Lott to shut up and step down as SML.

NM, I found it, I think. Although I don't see anything wrong with it, unless he was specifically refering not to Strom himself, but the single issue that's now more associated with Trent than Sen. Thurmond.
---
The setting, for those of you who missed The Washington Post report last Saturday, was a 100th birthday celebration for Strom Thurmond.
Everyone was saying nice things about ol' Strom.
The Mississippi senator offered this praise:
"I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."
To: Doctor Stochastic
I have wanted him out of the leadership position for some time. Ever since I heard how he rigged the Senate "trial" of His Slickness.
I apologize to no one for that. 'Pod

Yep, trying to appease the Rats is like trying to appease Saddam. The more you cave the more they take. Some people never learn. I suppose Bush has tabled the nuclear option as well. *sigh*
To: DodgeRam
they have a guy in the Senate who was allowed to remain there after he allowed the honey in the back seat of his car to drown under a bridge....
Compared to that, bribery is nothing.
To: Howlin
Why are you in favor of affirmative action? Why are you in favor of it being the Republican Agenda (tm)?
To: Howlin
You truly are suffering from a ... oh, never mind.
To: Howlin
"affirmative access" - one of the 3 debates w/ Gore.
To: KQQL
If a republican governor tried to fill a democratic seat with a republican you can bet the democrats would cry bloody murder. But let a democrat replace a vacant GOP seat with a democrat and you see a silent dog rolling over. I'm sick of it.
The democrats used Lott for everything he was worth during the impeachment. You would think they would cut him some slack but that is not how democrats play ball. Good by Mr. Lott and good riddance. You didn't do the honest thing in 1999.

Damn! Something else we agree on...
