Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz presented U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney with intelligence information showing a clear partnership between the al-Qaida and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations, Yediot Aharonot reported today. Mofaz said that Israel reserved the right to respond to an Iraqi missile strike, and warned that Israel would "clean out" southern Lebanon if Hizbullah attacked.
Mofaz, on his first official visit to the United States as defense minister, told Cheney that al-Qaida and Islamic Jihad have coordinated plans for terror attacks against Israeli citizens, in Israel and elsewhere. Mofaz said al-Qaida terror cells are operating in the Gaza Strip. At the beginning of December, Mofaz charged that al-Qaida was responsible for the twin terror attacks in Mombasa, Kenya, which killed 3 Israelis and ten people from Kenya, days before the terror organization admitted its role in the attacks. Mofaz spoke yesterday with Cheney in a videoconference due to security reasons.
In his talk with Cheney, Mofaz asked the United States to provide ample advance warning ahead of an American strike against Iraq. Mofaz said that though Israel reserved the right to retaliate for an Iraqi attack, such a response would not be automatic but would be based on developments.
Let's rollowitz, Israel, and God's Speed. How about "cleaning out" Damascus, while you're at it.
How refreshing to see some clear thinking....
They are quite common actually... against foreigners in Saudi Arabia. The sick thing is, the VICTIMS of the terror attack are arrested by the Saudi state and accused of being part of an alcohol smuggling ring, or similar fake charge. They are tortured until they confess, and then must serve a prison sentence, or--if their "crime" warrants it--they are executed.
Those are our good friends the Saudis...
Yes. The friends of Hillary and Bill.
I answer that, With regard to heretics two points must be observed: one, on their own side; the other, on the side of the Church. On their own side there is the sin, whereby they deserve not only to be separated from the Church by excommunication, but also to be severed from the world by death. For it is a much graver matter to corrupt the faith which quickens the soul, than to forge money, which supports temporal life. Wherefore if forgers of money and other evil-doers are forthwith condemned to death by the secular authority, much more reason is there for heretics, as soon as they are convicted of heresy, to be not only excommunicated but even put to death.
Saint Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica
I do not know whether execution of heretics was ever the official policy of the Church. And, of course, this was long ago in a brutal era. However, I do think it hints at what might have happened if Christian thinkers, like many of those of Islam, had frozen its view of the world at medieval or pre-medieval time.
