FReepers, I was just on the air with Hugh Hewitt. He wanted to see one thread in which we answer the question --- should Lott stay or go. Please give Hugh a one word answer. Thanks.

Its a real conundrum. He is a lousy Senate leader, but a good Senator. But if he is forced to step down as Senate leader, it makes it look like a bunch of race baiting leftist forced him out. Then it will embolden them to play the race card again on the next Senate leader. The good news is, they are going to overplay their hand, and it will backfire. So I say its a win-win for Sen. Lott to step down. We get better leadership, and will expose the race baiters and civil rights leaders, for the phony hypocrites most of them are.

What would Cromwell say to Lott?
"You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

He should stay. He should enlist the help of one of his critics, Peggy Noonan, and work his butt off to demonstrate that the republican party not only wants blacks fully within its ranks but likes this precious and important part of our America. Trent Lott should help our nation by helping our blacks awake to the swarmy way liberals have used them-victemized them-crushed their spirits-split their families and separated them MENTALLY from those of us not black.
Liberals like hillary and bill and jesse jackson and maxine waters and shiela jackson-lee and others have spent their LIVES trying to split our nation along racial lines by hurting the spirit and causing great anger within our black population.
We are one nation. Skin color matters about as much as haircolor. I suspect we all know God doesn't give a hoot about skin color-but we know he cares about character.
If Lott is not up to helping devastate the LIE the liberals have cast all of us conservatives under...then, and only then, should he step aside. Not because of liberal marching orders, but because he knows in his heart he is not up to the task of bringing the truth to America.

Unless Trent "The Boneless Wonder" Lott can have Dr. Beverely Crusher from the Star Trek Next Generation implant a new backbone into him like she did for Worf, he should just jiggle away.

Leave the Leadership, but serve out his term.
To: doug from upland
Go. Not because of those remarks, but because he's been a horrible majority leader.
To: doug from upland
Stay. Reluctantly, but I say he should hang tough.

Go.
Lott has missed a major theme of the Republican Party.
Lott is part of The Party of Lincoln.
NOT the Party of Jefferson Davis.
(And I say this as person who grew up in "The South")

Stay as majority leader? No
Stay in the Senate? Yes
As long as a stronger and more conservative replacement is in the wings!
