Technically, he said it would benefit, and this is a paraphrase "blacks, all minorities, men, women, young, and old"

"No it's not. He's not going to step down, so he's trying to save himself."
I doubt he makes it to Jan. 6.
"You're going to have to force him out, and that usually is not a pretty thing to watch."
Yes, that would be ugly. My hope is we don't see anymore Kennedy backslapping like Bush did with on Kennedy on the education bill and punting school choice. That's another subject, but somehow I see them touching each other.

So, he's changing the agenda of the GOP to save his sorry butt?
Not with my money.

I would hate to think that no one, who knew me, was standing up for me.Why would they stand by him? The first thing he did was have his staff call everyone and demand they go out and defend him. They even threatened them with (paraphrase) We'll remember who doesn't. Nice huh? Not even a personal phone call, not a please, just do it or we'll remember that you didn't.

"Two days ago, I signed a petition to have Lott step down. I hope the ham-fisted moron resigns PRONTO. I never liked Trent Lott, but probably not for the same reasons you don't like him. I despise him, because he's a wishy washy old woman, an appeaser, a cheap "dealmaker" who most probably has never stood on principle in his life. I'll bet he doesn't even know the meaning of the word. For many years I have seen him as a smarmy creep whose tenure as Senate Majority -- and Minority Leader -- reflects poorly on the judgment of Republican leaders in general. Why they have put up with this clumsy oaf defies analysis. I'm praying round the clock that Bill Frist will take Lott's place -- and SOON.
Politics is rife with hypocrisy and shameless opportunism. This flap over Lott in my opinion is just that. Conservatives like me see it as an excellent opportunity to give a poor, ineffectual, spineless fool a long-overdue heave ho.Democrats obviously see this as a wonderful chance to get a few licks in at a seemingly invincible Republican Juggernaut.Everyone's having a Field Day slinging mud, digging up a whole HERD of dead horses they're trying to beat back to life. I don't think ANYONE on EITHER side of this brouhaha means a THING he is saying. Mendacity is on the march -- in other words it's politics is usual."
Lott must go!"
We agree on nearly all of it. It's better now than later and every day he stays on as leader is another bad political day for the GOP and conservatives. Personally, I like Santorum.

It'd help if LOTT would zip his lip as well. Before this we were hearing that he should speak up. Now, we are told he should shut up. I'm sure he has been given advice from all sides. Trying to clear his name and do the right thing will never be enough for some. It wouldn't matter what he did or didn't do. Some people are going to trash him no matter what.
One day I hope that we wake up and figure out that we need to tell the race baiters to shut up and stay out of our faces. The people who believe the Republican Party is any worse at race issues than the Democratic Party aren't paying attention anyway.

If you find a transcript will ya freepmail me a copy, or link to find it? I gotta read it to see if it reads better than it watched. Too sick to stick around much longer. Somehow I have indigestion. Hehehe.
To: cake_crumb
who isn't falling all over themselves in defence of Lott No one has asked you to defend him. Falling for another RAT trick seems to be what some people enjoy.

He is not fit to be President Bush's main man in the Senate President Bush didn't put him in the Senate. I don't think he gets to decide who his main man is going to be. If Pres. Bush decides to go along with the Trent Lott lynching some of us maybe need to rethink our support of him.

"Oh, didn't you hear? Lott said HE asked for the meeting in January because he needs to discuss his plans for rectifying this situation with the other senators because "we all, of course, will have to work together" to make right the wrongs done to blacks.
I am FUMING........just FUMING."
I passed on the BET thing because it was all too predictable. From what I've picked up in bits and pieces, Lott performed as expected. Once again, this is why, now that we have the chance, we better not have to deal with Lott as Leader and can avoid the liabilities he brings and would even further bring us down the road. Sadly, Lott did us good when he opened his mouth. I feel like I knew Lott's script...
To: BobFromNJ
desperate search for Lott's saving graces Because I think it's wrong to trash someone for something they didn't do or THINK? You can call me anything you want but I won't be a part of a PUBLIC LYNCHING of a man who has been targeted by a bunch of KOOK RATS. Sorry, but I am NOT playing this game.

"He has gotten quit a bit of help, IMO. I would hate to think that no one, who knew me, was standing up for me. That makes me angry to have people turn their backs on someone knowing it's a lie(most have admitted it)."
If you were a party leader, entrusted with getting conservative ideals through, with a background like Lott's toward conservatives and principle - and pulled off this debacle, like only the Lott can...well, you wouldn't be leader anymore either, I would pray.
To: kcvl
If Pres. Bush decides to go along with the Trent Lott lynching some of us maybe need to rethink our support of him. The President has tried to stay out of this because this is up to the Senate Republicans to decide who they want as their leader .. Bush has nothing to do with it

For the good of everyone and GOP agenda Lott needs to step aside as a leader..............
LOTT is stupid for what he said......and at this point no one
is going to forgive him, especially the Black
Leadership community....................So.........he

You know, for a person who doesn't like quotas, you sure like to count black and white faces.

"Ronald Reagan visited a German cemetary when he was President and honored their war dead. However, some of those buried were Nazis. Does that mean Reagan should have stepped down as President?
If Reagan added that if the Germans had won, we wouldn't be facing some of the problems we're seeing now, then yes.
The fact you even have to say this makes me wonder if the people defending Lott's comments don't have some soul searching to do. Lott's remarks repulsed light colored people in the GOP as much as anyone else.
