I don't feel sorry for him.

Talk about selling your soul to save your sorry butt.
He's either lying NOW or he's been lying ALL ALONG.
If the GOP is going to be about affirmative action (not to mention saving this piece of crap), I'm out of it.

I was trying to make a point by calling the ones who made remarks that COULD be considered racist a racist. To show them how it feels to be called something that you aren't. I see it didn't work on you.

I just saw Trent Lott say that HE had asked for the January 6th meeting so HE can tell the other senators how they are going to handle this "problem." Yep, he said he felt it was important that the senators discuss this matter further
I didn't know he requested this meeting

That was the comment about people in his part of the country being immoral, I gather, from reading about it after the fact.

BTW, it's okay to do that to a Senator but it's not okay to do it to someone else on a thread?

I would say the interview was received poorly by those who saw it. I did not see ut and have just been reading the thread to find out how it went myself. I was taken aback by the affirmative action comments, though.
To: Mo1
"Well after viewing that interview, that might be good advice for Lott .. he didn't help himself tonight."He sure didn't...EGAD that was awful. I wanted this to die down and him to remain as majority leader, but I really don't know if he can be pulled out of this now...or if he should be even if he can be. He certainly proved that he can't pull HIMSELF out. He's an embarrassment!
To: alnick
OMG........I am actually stunned, and that is saying something.
How dare he.

"What an insufferable idiot. Initially, I wanted him merely to step down as ML. Now I want his friggin backstabbing unprincipled sycophantic head on a pike!"
Maynerd, it was a matter of time for the Vacant Lott to pull something of this magnitude. I knew it when he pushed up his leadership election to stave off challengers. Now, we have seen in 10 days what we knew we had with Lott as Leader. Better (thank God) now that at any other time.
To: Mo1
He's lying. He did NOT request that meeting. He acted like he wanted the meeting so he and the other senators could get together and talk about how to help the blacks.

If you have trouble understanding me, my it is not my fault.
I can't make it any clearer for you.

He didn't even cook his shoe leather before inserting it into his throat... I have to agree with you there .. it was bad

"How long are we going to stuck with this pathetic excuse for ML?"
Until he vacates the leadership position or loses when challenged on 1/6/03.
To: cyncooper
Here's the quote: "I'm for that," Lott said when asked by Gordon again. "I'm for affirmative action and I've practiced it. I've had African Americans on my staff and other minorities, but particularly African Americans, since the mid-1970s."
Isn't Bush for it as well?
To: Howlin
We need a transcript, as bad as I hate to say that knowin I'll hafta read it. Is this thing replayed again tonight? God help us.
To: altura
"But what concerns me is that it looks like, and I'm only an entertainer here, folks, that Trent is going to go so far in trying to prove he is not racist that he will back legislation that is neither necessary or helpful, but that just looks good, the old Demo ploy."
This was a given when he took leadership again. The way he's handled it was so predictable.
To: cake_crumb
I wanted this to die down and him to remain as majority leader, but I really don't know if he can be pulled out of this now...or if he should be even if he can be. Well if he had a chance, he blew it tonight ..
