Don't worry about him. He's been calling everybody racists tonight trying to make some point about how anybody can be tarred by the racist charge. Personally, I thought it got old after the first 10 times or so he did it.

I just saw Trent Lott say that HE had asked for the January 6th meeting so HE can tell the other senators how they are going to handle this "problem."
Is that what you heard him say?

"Maybe he could just hug Oprah."
He could kiss her and it would only be worse. He was *TOAST* the day he opened his mouth, again, about this as. Majority Leaders in the GOP that screw up like this, on this issue, and are willing to take us all down with him need to go.

He should resign immediately and stay in the senate until his term is up and continue to be a loyal Republican (unless all along he has really been a segregationist Southern Democrat). He then should refrain from running again. There should be no room in the Republican Party for those with foot in the mouth disease. I can't imagine you wanting to keep such a racist in office. I really don't think you get to decide who Mississippi elects to office to represent them. If foot in the mouth disease keeps people from office I'm afraid there won't be anyone left in Washington.

I missed this interview. Did he say that he is now going to work for affirmative action?Even more than that, he said he has used affirmative action and that the proof is the minorities he has hired!
I didn't see it myself either, but a freeper posted the quote and assured me it was accurate. I'll go find it.

I have always thought Bryd should go .. that hasn't change
And I still don't think it is right that Lott is being hounded as a racist over his comment
As for what is next, I have no idea, but this interview did not help ..

I am for affirmative action. And I practice it. I have had African-Americans on my staff, and other minorities, but particularly African-Americans, since the mid-1970s ... you can get into arguments about timetables and quotas. Here's what I think, though. I think you've got to have an aggressive effort in America to make everybody have a chance."

I heard Lott tried to become the first black Senate Majority Leader tonight. (Gomer Pyle) Well, surprise, surprise. Way to go Trent, we (some of us) knew you had it in you!
To: Howlin
Here's the quote:
"I'm for that," Lott said when asked by Gordon again. "I'm for affirmative action and I've practiced it. I've had African Americans on my staff and other minorities, but particularly African Americans, since the mid-1970s."

"Question for you.....would the GOP choose a new SML from a southern state?.....I think not....LOtt's a goner....but it won't be Frist, Nichols, or McConnell....it'll be Santorum....on the merits, and also geography.."
I hope you're right. If the Senate keeps him in place as Leader, then the RINOs and RATS apparently really do run this country, regardless who leads.

Because there in not a WET network.

Anyone who isn't PC, is a racist to you? No, just wondering how some would react to being called a racist.

Do you consider President Bush a leader because he caved in on Campaign Finance Reform?

I didn't see it; tonight is not a good night for me.....but from what I am reading, I am NOT a happy camper and I'm going to have a LOT more spending money because I'm not giving another dime to the RNC.
I am a lot of things, but I am NOT a racist, and I'll be damned if I'm going to give money to a party whose leader insinuates I am one JUST TO SAVE HIS SORRY ASS.
And you can bet I've already sent that message to Racicot and the entire RNC.

I dont' know what the majority of the replies have been on this thread...how would you guys summarize the replies?
I saw the rerun of the interview. Lott did very poorly IMHO...his answers were kind of lame. And the questions were not easy.
To: dogbyte12
Oh, thanks. This quote adds to the remark. I have no problem with people having chances...the first part implying the reason those staff members were hired sounds very clumsy, though.
