There is nothing that he can do to please some of you because on this thread alone most of you have been more racist than he has ever been. Hypocrites! There is something to be said for this view. However, race is really unique as an issue where Republicans need to be careful. Not so much for the sake of thin-skinned blacks, but also for the sake of swing voters who will judge harshly careless statement on just this one topic. It shouldn't be all that hard to remember this.
Reality is, Lott has little chance to hand on the his ML position. However, by moving to the left this last week, he is making it worse for his party. Now they will be saying that the next ML is even more conservative than Lott, and it will almost have to be true.

How does it feel to be siding with Jesse Jackson and the black caucus?

Ivan, I think so. Ironic that it was the verbal pander-rhea flowing from his 5th (or was it 6th?) apology that REALLY will get him voted out.
He all but said "Yes, Gordon! From now on, I will exist in the Senate ONLY to offer goodies to You People!"

First, Lott isn't a racist in my view. Second, it is just as alright for him to stay in the Senate (but not as ML) as it is for Bobbie Byrd to stay. Now....if you are arguing that both of them should go, you are at least verging on consistency.

Sorry, but a quick search only turned up lowlights.Har.

You are enjoying this, all your fake protestations to the contrary.I bet you got beaten up a ton in school, right?

" Question for you.....would the GOP choose a new SML from a southern state?.....I think not....LOtt's a goner....but it won't be Frist, Nichols, or McConnell....it'll be Santorum....on the merits, and also geography.."You: "Yeah. Cause even some in our own party think we rednecks ain't nuthin' but a bunch of sheet-wearin' racists."
We northern rednecks resent southern rednecks sayin' they're better than we are! It's HICKISM I TELL YOU!! "
To: Austin Willard Wright
Exactly! I'm interested in hearing how the Lott apologist crowd will revise tonight's debacle.....
To: Austin Willard Wright
Try being in his shoes...why are you so self righteous and demanding such blood?
To: Hazzardgate
I'm sorry about that. I apologize for it. I've asked for forgiveness and I'm going to continue to do that .... But it is about actions more than words. As majority leader I can move an agenda that would hopefully be helpful to African Americans and minorities of all kinds and all Americans."

At 8:35pm EST, Meeks stated in regards to Lott, "WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THOSE KINDS OF THOUGHTS."
He seemed to be saying that in general. About Lott and anyone else. It's his right to say it but you cannot force racists to stop being the way they are. I was born and raised in Texas. I spent my younger years off South Park Blvd. in Houston. It's now MLK blvd. I could not walk down the street we lived on today. There are parts of Texas that the same thing applies to a black man.
Like most people I won't tolerate racism from white people or anyone else. But I learned a long time ago you cannot punch the racism out of anyone. They have to learn to do that on there own. Maybe Lott is not a racist and maybe he is. All I know is that he is even more ineffective as ever and the politics here say he is badly wounded. And that's bad for his party and the President.

"I like Santorum."Me too. LOL...I've even had his website in my favorites folder for a couple of years.

But Lott doesn't resign from the Senate, just from the leadership position of SML. So he stays as an incumbent Senator, keeping the Senate in control of Repubs. Then he DOES have Bush's support for the governor's race.

Actually, I support quotas of limited application. My views I suspect would enrage both sides simultaneously. I often do that. :)

Lott announced that he has changed his mind about making Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a federal holiday having voted against it when it was on the Senate floor and said he supports affirmative action.
"I'm for that," Lott said when asked by Gordon again. "I'm for affirmative action and I've practiced it. I've had African Americans on my staff and other minorities, but particularly African Americans, since the mid-1970s."
To: Morrigan
" It is never pretty to see a grown man grovel. If you lay down, they are gonna want to kick you. I would have had more respect for Lott if he had refused to apologize and said, "Look. I was just trying to kiss up to the old man on his birthday to make myself look good. If you people want to read more into it, fine. But I think that reading racism in that says more about your own attitudes than mine."
Him apologizing like this just makes him look guilty."
Carville announced on CF-that after Lott, the next in line to be driven out, is Ashcroft-he's another racist, because he gave an interview to Southern Partisan magazine.Once the apologies and groveling started-not just from Lott, but from every Republican who holds office, there will be no stopping this movement to purge the Republican Party of those who are not pure, according to the new arbiters of ethics and morality-the Democrats and media. Too bad the Republicans as a whole-both House and Senate, didn't see this train wreck coming, once it started gathering steam. They could have all convened on the steps of the Capitol in a huge group and denounced racial politics and supported Trent, as a man. In exchange,Trent would agree to step down as ML. He could have had his reputation in better shape than it will ever be and the Republicans could have blunted the charge that we are all David Duke wannabes.
To: kcvl
Lott's not a racist...he's just a fool. I'd rather have the fool sitting on the bench. Lott has singlehandedly allowed the liberal left-wing, lap dog media and the "real cable channel people wanna be's" on BET put him six feet under...this may, in the end, COST US THE SENATE!!!
They have learned the ways of Personal Destruction well, at the hands of the master, X-42 Krintoon....

Should be hilarious.
I would love to see Chester's FBI raw file, I am sure that the Clintoons found some pretty juicy reading.
