I recall a comment on your post about Lott. Someone said Lott might resign, if forced out of the leadership.

You replied, "I doubt that Lott has your toddlers temperment."

Well, it's starting to appear that he does... :~(

Well I think Chaffee is an idiot. Maybe now is the time to purge the Republican party of all the fools. Unfortuantely, not only would we lose the Senate, we'd probably lose the House too.

Not until the news media, Jesse Jackson, Comrade Clinton, Al Sharpton, Ms Pelosi, the Black Caucus and the Sinkmaster himself, not to mention the democrat party as a whole, condemn, vilify and force former KKK member Senator Robert Byrd out of the Senate can we talk about doing the same to Trent Lott. You know that day ain't NEVER gonna come! And if you do this to Lott, you are playing right into the hands of the demagogues!

The new newsweek article by Fineman says that Mitch McConnell was the one that, during the conference call, said that if Lott leaves as ML, he would probably leave as a Senator altogether

If this is true and Lott does leave, it won't look to good on him buy throwing his seat to a Dem

He'll look like a traitor

If he stays as ML, he will be hounded as a racist

Any way you look at it, Lott is screw

Actually I'm for a higher minimum wage myself but I think that Blacks are so tied to the Dem party that any number of legislative issues won't change their minds into becoming Republicans...

The Dems have more seats to defend in 2004 and most of the Dem seats are in strong Bush states...

Uhmmm...I know. Which means that fooling around with wishy-washy leaders between now and then who won't maximize that advantage would be a HUGE error.

Those kinds of stupid mistakes are avoidable...so let's avoid em. Pick a principled, effective, strong, and honest Leader now.

It wasn't Lott who won those seats to get us back in the majority... it was Bush...

It's morally wrong for the government to tell private businesses what they can pay employees. That is basically National Socialism. And, not relevant to this thread.

What impeachment debacle... the votes weren't there and were never going to be there...

That is nothing more than liberal revisionist propaganda. The vote for conviction and removal of our disgraced former President was very much winnable. The fact is that Lott permitted nothing more than a show trial in that he refused desperate pleas by Schiffers and the House Impeachment Managers to give them a fair chance including extra witnesses and the presentation of evidence, but Lott opposed them at every turn to protect Bill Clinton's butt!! On that basis alone, Lott should have been deposed nearly four years ago. Now, that this whole segregationist debacle thing has come up, conservatives are licking their chops because Lott's fate is pretty much sealed and with God's help, he will be replaced by a real conservative like Don Nickles who does not believe in caving to the RATS.

Of course, there were Senators even more pro-Clinton and pro-RAT during the impeachment crisis like Orrin Hatch who was practically jeered out of the Utah State Convention for opposing a Senate impeachment trial and for promising to personally lead Clinton's defense if he only admitted he lied.

I'm perfectly ok with being on the other side of socialism on any issue.

No, a failure to support a higher minimum is racism. I was just told that. Does Lott oppose a higher minimum wage?

If Lott isn't replaced as majority "leader" (while somehow being convinced to stay in the Senate), can I say, "I told you so,"

Say anything you want. But I might call you a racist, and you better be ready to defend yourself.

Well as I said you have a good senario but I've seen the road to hell paved with good intentions before. My point is your senario is a good one but has the very one, "racist Trent Lott" agreed to it? I personally don't think he will.... We all can come up with good solutions, but there is only one that can make it work.... A lot of them take their marbles and move on to something else. He can spend the next two years rehabing his reputation for some other after Senate endeavor rather than being looked down upon by his fellow peers, press, media pundits, conservatives, snide remarks about Jesse and the boys will straighten him up if he don't toe the line.... JMO, of course

Frist is the ideal man to step in.

Why do you guys want to turn the Senate over to the RINOs? That's exactly what you would be doing by promoting Frist. I don't get it.

Frist is way to the left of Lott, and he has proven he has no time nor use for conservatives.

We'll never know if that vote was winnable or not, the evidence was suppressed and so was the vote.
