Mitch McConnell doesn't seem to get itMcConnell has shown his utter stupidity by claiming he doesn't even know the senate procedure for removing Lott as Maj. Leader (Fox).
To: Alas Babylon!
Uggh. The "Lott Thing" continues.....
Look, I never like "Sparrow Feather" Lott. He sold the House Managers up the river, made a deal with Byrd and Daschle to make the Senate Impeachment Trial a joke (no witnesses, time limits, no evidence presented, etc), and who can forget Lott during the Lt Kelly (lies, sleeps with enlisted man, sleeps with husband of yet another enlisted woman, lies again) Flynn:
LOTT: "Come on guys! I mean, like, get real!"
Thanks a Lott!
However, I didn't want him "Borked"--because we do the right thing for the wrong reason.
But now, Lott says that if he cannot be Majority Leader, he resigns, puts a RAT in seat, and takes his GI Joe and goes home.
Again, thanks a Lott---for nothing. He is a crummy leader. But, what we are seeing is a naked power grab by the media and the Dirtycrats. They can't win at the polls, so they play games.

No matter how tough an interview the Foxnews team give a Republican, the Left will NEVER admit that FOX is "fair and balanced". so they keep trying harder by being fierce to conservative guests. Meanwhile, the other news shows do NOT do hardball interviews with their favorites!
Why do conservatives insist on eating their own!!!

I have real mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I think it is awful for conservatives to shoot their wounded. On the other Trent has not acted as a conservative since he became leader.
Another thought. Why is that everyone seems to be a big expert on what Lott meant by his statement. I would think the worlds leading expert on what Lott meant would be Lott.

We saw what happened when Donna Brazille went down to LA to get the black vote out for Mary Landrieu. We lose. The blacks have good reason to come out in droves now and the RATS will use this to paint the entire Republican Party as a racist mob. Blacks listen to thier leaders - they will believe what they are told and they will vote out of anger and fear. It is not fair but that is what will happen.

Tony Snow got Juan Williams to say that this Trent Lott issue has energized the RATs to a level of the 2002 Elections.
Tony should have followed up with "So Juan this is a political stunt on the part of the democrats then isn't it?".

McConnell has shown his utter stupidity by claiming he doesn't even know the senate procedure for removing Lott as Maj. Leader (Fox). True .. but I am guessing that McConnell really didn't want to answer the question
Carl Cameron on FOX mentioned that a Bush aide said that if a challenge is made for a new election that Bush would not come to Lott's side

Okay, let's say everything you say is true. Was Lott's mishandling of this enough of a reason to abandon him and undue the results of the midterm election?
Where, I wonder, would we be now with this story if we had circled the wagons and said "no" to another borking of a Republican?
Conservative, not liberals, fueled this fire. I just hope the whole house of cards doesn't go up in flames.

"the big picture is that Lott is damaged as ML."to be known henceforth as "Liability Lott".

Lott's the only one who put Lott in this situation. Lott is the only one who could do the right thing and step down and stop the slow bleed brought about by Lott.
If Lott wants to endlessly defend Lott, because of Lott's stupid remarks, then Lott should step down and defend Lott on Lott's own time, not ours.
That is my feeling on Lott.
To: AHWilde
If you read his quote, the words are pretty clear. That's the problem. It is impossible to misinterpret them. I don't think we are eating our own. I think we are holding one of our own accountable - something the RATS do not do. That's what makes us different from them. Having Lott step down as ML would send a message to the country that this President and this Republican Party will not tolerate racist or segregationist comments - and that this President truly is the President of ALL the people.
To: AHWilde
I would think the worlds leading expert on what Lott meant would be Lott.If you have followed Lott's Apology Tour, you should have a pretty solid understanding that Lott doesn't get it at all. He is apologizing because he was told he should. He doesn't think he said anything wrong--yet he has never said what he meant.
To: Right_in_Virginia
I think conservatives WERE truly outraged. I know I was. If Lott cared about the Party, he would step down as ML and remain in the Senate. That would not undo an election. It would just make the statement that the Republican Party and President Bush do not stand by Lott's comments - or his record of making comments like this in the past. IMHO, he cooked his own goose by the way he handled this whole thing initially - which only showed he didn't think he really did anything wrong. It is not just Democrats that are angry at Lott.
To: Wait4Truth
I wish McConnell and Nickles were on the same page...Nickles sees the big picture, Mitch doesn't. Could this be because of the 'FBI files'?

Lott's arrogance just will not let him believe that he is vulnerable.
Yesterday he was at the head of one of the most powerful legislative bodies in the world. Today, people are calling for his head.
All this time he is jumping up and down saying you do not know to whom you are speaking to in such a manner.
Total denial.
To: Alas Babylon!
Not a talk show, but people tune in tonite at 9 pm eastern for HGTV's Christmas special at the White House. They did a good job last year.
To: Bluntpoint; Reo
If Lott does not stand down as ML, it is because of his own arrogance. He still doesn't understand what his remarks meant. If he did, he would remain in the Senate and mend fences with those he has offended - but not as ML. He is covering his own butt and for him, that is more important than the future of his Party or his President. To me, that is unforgiveable.
To: Mo1
if a challenge is made for a new election that Bush would not come to Lott's sideSounds like the right thing to do. I am struck by Lottbots who act as though Trent was conservatism personafied before this lastest incident.
I was very disappointed that his ML position was rammed through in a whirlwind after Nov 5. This lastest screw up was just the last straw in my opinion.

To: NautiNurse
He didn't even appear in person until the President slammed him. Until then, he was giving phoned-in, tepid apologies. Just as in everything else, he was spineless. Paul Gigot of the Wall Street Journal says the Senate Republicans deserve a new vote for ML. I agree. If Lott stays as ML, I think we lose in 04.
