McConnell says that with the exception of Nickles (Nichols ?), he "isn't aware of anyone (Rep) else" calling for Lott's stepping down. Brit questioning him about Lott's possible inability to get things done.
To: Carolinamom
Mitch McConnell also said that he doesn't know the senate procedure for replacing Lott. Give me strength!!!
To: Carolinamom
Here's the quotes they displayed:
Sen. Mitch McConnell saying it would be a waste of time. Backing Trett.

Is that the same Don't know, switched over to ABC for McConnell before I have to run out.
To: NautiNurse
The Senate procedure wouldn't be insurmountable IF Lott himself said that he could not effectively serve in the present climate and called for a new vote (since he rushed through by 2 weeks the past vote on majority leader).
To: Oldeconomybuyer
It certainly would be interesting to see someone interview "Sheets" about his feelings regarding the 1948 Dixiecrat platform.
To: Carolinamom
Mitch McConnell says that Lott needs to stay and they should make better use of their time in getting Bush's agenda through. [The trouble is.....]"
The trouble is....conservatives have split the Republican party and put the president's agenda at risk.
Conservatives.

McConnell on Fox: Censure of Lott would mean censure of all congress members who have ever said anything racially insensitive.
To: Carolinamom
Many disagree with me but I think the Republican Party needs to get their message united and call on Lott to resign as Majority Leader. He is damaged by his own stupidity and our entire agenda is at stake. The President's re-election is at stake. This story is not going to go away. And, finally, we can say good-bye to any conservative judicial nominees. The RATS in the Senate are totally energized now, as are the RATS in the House.
To: All
Sen. Mitch McConnell basically saying if the RATs want a segregation comments war we'll give it to them.

Censure of Lott would mean censure of all congress members who have ever said anything racially insensitive. I hope the Congressional Black Caucus heard that.
To: McGruff
I wish McConnell and Nickles were on the same page...Nickles sees the big picture, Mitch doesn't.
To: Wait4Truth
"The RATS in the Senate are totally energized now, as are the RATS in the House." As are the conservatives...pretty strange bedfellows, no?"
To: StriperSniper
Did you just hear that last caller?!?! If you meant the scumbag muslim calling C-SPAN from Britain (~8:55 AM EST) to advocate the assasination of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and just about anybody else in what he called the Zionist plot to kill the poor persecuted Muslims of the world........................Yes.
To: DoctorMichael
Does C-SPAN not screen its callers as to what they are going to say?

And, unfortunately, Mitch McConnell doesn't seem to get it. It has gone way beyond what Lott said and his enemies in the media and in the other party have sunk their teeth in this and they aren't going to let go. Ever.
It's sad, and yes it's a double standard, but people have to face reality.

Yes, conservatives are upset - including this one. Lott's silence for days after his stupid remarks was deadly. Then he did a couple of cowardly phone-in apologies...he handled this in a terrible manner. I side with Nickles on this - someone else would be a better leader. I understand that others do not agree with me, but the big picture is that Lott is damaged as ML.
