imho it's a miracle that Arafat turned down the offer.

Not really. The US at the time, i.e. Clinton Inc., was his protector. He could do anything he wanted.
Hillary also became vey seriesly friendly with his wife. It was a hug and kisses relationship.

The author gave no indication how the speech was received by the students and staff, other than mentioning some protestors outside. Strange.

As much as I think he's stating things correctly here, I can not help but be underwhelmed.

Why didn't Barak govern then like he talks now?

Barak sold his cojones to the Clinton's during the Israeli election... he is partly responsible for the crap we are all in. He should sit down and shut up.

If he opens his mouth it should be only to say, "I made a terrible mistake. I was wrong."

It's time for a major change in Israeli government. Bibi is good, but he has had his chance. Labour is in der erd. Shas party, gag-a-maggot.

I would like to see Effi Eitam as PM, or Nathan Sharansky.

Same rank that George Washington topped out at before becoming president. Some armies don't suffer from rank inflation.

So true. The Palie terrorists probably didn't even give a double-take to Barak in a dress, and if they did, it was because they were turned on, not repulsed.

I still regard Barak with a cautious eye...but it took some courage to say these things at a place like Brown University..

It did indeed. People do change, and it appears that Barak has done so. I certainly didn't agree with his policies when he was PM, but his courage has never been in question. The man had a very distinguished military career.

Interesting article on the failed Oslo final status negotiations:

Barak began referring to the `Holy of Holies'

...his courage has never been in question. The man had a very distinguished military career.

I knew he'd been a very decorated soldier...
But I was suprised to hear him recounting his part in the covert operation to
take out that terrorist in Lebanon.

Although it was deadly business, I couldn't help chuckling a bit over the
thought of Barak dressed as a woman.
Like I said, that poor terrorist must have flinched on his trigger finger,
asking himself "What is this very ugly woman with a gun doing, breaking into my house?"

He was a terrible, naive, foolish leader, and unsuited to the task of leading Israel.

Barak has been making a lot of sense lately; he is either now a born again Jew, or a born again Christian, and I don't think it is the latter.

Time for the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa mosques and other Islamic disgusts to be removed from Jewish temple mount.

Oh BTW, some such move on Barak's part would be absolutely required if he were to have any political future at all.

<< Barak's appearance drew several dozen protesters, who stood outside shouting, "Stop the killing, stop the crime . . . End occupation of Palestine." >>

Yes let's.

The sooner every last one of those shirt lifting, turd burgling, death and destruction worshipping, insane-paedopihle and-false-fuerher following Jordanian, Egyption, Lebanese and Syrian islamanazi bastards is cleared the Hell out of God's Mountains -- out of Palestine -- the better!
