The Heart of Texas Chapter and other Freepers from around the state gathered at the George H.W. Bush Library and Museum on Saturday, November 23rd. for a fun afternoon of viewing and eating.
We had 15 Freepers/spouses and 4 little Freepers with us. Two of our group came from Tyler and one came from Brownsville. Thank you all for taking the time to "make a weekend" of it and join us. We also met some local Freepers from right there in the Bryan/College Station area. I do not have the attendance list with me and ask that someone post any persons I may leave off. Joining us were: Basil, DrewsDad and DrewsMom with little Freeper, The Sarce, The Bat Lady, CindyDawg, Anymouse, MomofSix with two of the six, Blastus and TXBubba with little Freeper, Doomhammer and ???(can't remember handle) and three others whose handles just escape me. Someone please fill them in.
We met at the Bush Library at noon, got our tickets and saw the sights. Personally, I felt the place was very well done. Our son enjoyed the reading room set up in the Barbara Bush section. It had nice couches to sit on and lots of kids books to read. That also helped us take turns as parents reading the other displays. We saw one of the rare broadside copies of the Declaration of Independence as part of one of the special displays. I'll let others post what they found interesting.
Afterwards we went to "South of the Border" for our Tex-Mex fix. The HOT Chapter has a thing about mexican food I think! We were all able to sit together and had a good time. TheSarce shared a picture of the DC Freepers found in a book that I want to say was done by Brokaw??? I may have that totally screwed up. Again, I'm sure my fellow freepers can help me out there.
I want to apologize for not getting an after action report up sooner. We have all been so busy ever since that Saturday. If you would like to join us at a Heart of Texas (HOT) Chapter meeting we will be meeting again in January. You can contact myself or Gracey via Freepmail for more info.

And you thought Trent Lott was in trouble! You're toast...

I think I may have it easier as I'm the daughter-in-law and not the son-in-law. It was Blastus' mother and I REALLY REALLY do like her! LOL

Howdy! I'm so glad someone else is on today. I wish I knew how to move DrewsDad's pictures over from the other thread.

Hi, I was there too with my daughter, but unfortunately had to break from the group and do the "aerobic" tour of the library due to a tour commitment at A&M for my future Aggie. She's sure she wants to go there, and I'm thrilled about it. I enjoyed meeting all of you and wish I could have spent more time getting to know you. The library was awesome, particularly the 9/11 exhibit, and I'm definitely going back soon. BTW, we ate at Freebird's near campus. Best burrito I've ever had!

Thanks for getting this posted,TXBubba. This is such a busy time of year that you are truly forgiven for taking longer than usual to get it up.
It was a great day, and as always, much fun to mingle with fellow Freepers.
Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm itchin to go see some of Texas - The Alamo, etc., and find out for myself why Texans have the bragging rights to Mexican Food - it ain't that bad,, here in So. Cal.
I hope you guys decide to do the Library trip again, with maybe a Texas holiday, or ??, and invite us 'tourist' to come join you - say in the spring or fall,,,
Thanks for posting your 'do'.

I tried your "mexican food" a few months ago. It was good but it wasn't MEXICAN food. LOL. Do yall have to have all those warnings on your menus though ?
To: CindyDawg
I never read the menus --- too much salsa smears. BUT, I can direct you to the best and most consistant great marguerita!

Just got back from San Antonio...home of some fabulous Tex-Mex. I had to laugh because we tried the So. Cal. mexican food two years ago and were so disappointed. That is when I decided that I must ONLY like TEX-Mex. There is mexican food and then there is TEX-Mex. Come visit us in the Spring or Fall seenenuf and we all can take you to see the sights in Texas. Our part (Texas Hill Country)is nice pretty much year round. Cindydawg's area (Brownsville)is probably nice all year round. In fact, we need to get there some time this Winter just to verify that. Good night.
