Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.
Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

you are a bright light in a dark storm.....
always love your logical direction after 4 thousand
posts (lol).....as for me, I wouldn't piss in
Krystol's ear if his brains were on fire.

What did you do 40 years ago? Were you even alive 40 years ago? Trent Lott was in college 40 years ago. Why should he be held to account NOW for what he did as a youth 40 years ago when the people who elected him time after time were aware of all that and trusted him to do what was honorable for the people he was representing? The world was different 40 years ago.

Toatally agree with your analysis.

If Trent Lott actually did say that, it was blackmail and we can only hope that isn't true.
If it is true, then the whole Republicn Senate would have lost all respect for him and he won't enjoy his leadership at all.
I still think that no matter what, he should leave leadership in the summer.

"I don't...I don't even like him...I consider him to be an arrogant *ss. " Oh good, I do too. It's just that I remember that he was Alan Keyes roomate in college, and ran his Senate campaign. And at times, it's strange where the support for Kristol will pop up......

Should read: "Lott isn't *that* stupid"

Chester? Chester Lott, is that you???? Showing signs of guts? It can't be, can it?
Where was this Chester Lott when they should have convicted the President of perjury?
To: Miss Marple
Maam, you state your case quite well. Perhaps that is Bill Kristol behind that tree.
But it's hard to focus on that when the whole political forest is falling down around Trent Lott's ears.

Ah, but we did impeach 'em and Newt gave us the house in '94.
Best exponents of the republican party:
Frist, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Newt & Rumsfeld.

Because he did not stand up and say the claim was bogus. I have to disagree .. this isn't Bush's dog fight ..
what he did say that the Republican Party does not agree with the statement Lott made and is being accused of
This is Lott's mess to clean up .. not the President's

From Washington Post.com
"Shortly after Lott spoke, more than 20 of them participated in a telephone conference call to discuss the fallout. Lott was not present."
So however Lott delivered the threat it wasn't in that conference call.

Ohhh! Give us a break!
Lott's not gay. Can we start talking about what we know, rather than try to smear the man even more?
I hope his kids and grandchildren don't surf this site right now.

Lott continues to supercede his job description and now is the weakest of the weakest of all Majority Leaders, ever.
To: P-Marlowe
Has Lott ever really admitted that his actions at that time were EVIL?Not in so many words. But, today, he said he repudiates "that time."
Lott's not going to say what you want him to say. He's come as close as you're going to get.
But, if you continue to be as anal as you have been, you'll rip Lott because he didn't use the word "EVIL."
To: A Citizen Reporter
See...that's exactly the tinfoil, ignorant cr*p I was talking about.
To: Mr Rogers
The downside is that if the Lott did truely threaten to leave, he is telling the Repubicans that he'd rather give control to Democrats than lose his leadership.
If that was true, that would rank up there as the most incredibly selfish move since Jeffords.
Until we hear otherwise, I assume this is all BS.

Rank and file Republicans stand around and cheer while Bubba-2 hands the country off to illegal aliens,so why should they care about this? Besides,Bubba-2 and his RINO pals are just looking for a excuse to hand power back to the Dims, anyhow. You undoubtedly have an extreme amount of hate for George Bush. Funny, you also do not have the slightest idea of who this president is. Every comment is so unBushlike that you come across as a DUer.
Your hate has sure clouded your ability to understand this president. You would think with that much interest, there would be a general idea of how Bush thinks and responds - but not so in your case.

OK, fine.
But Lott acts like Hillary found SOMETHING juicy in his FBI file. What do YOU think it is?
