Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.
Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

If I didn't know better, I'd think that this was DU. Can these people be GOP members and call our senate majority leader a terrorist, gay and a racist? This is about destroying a human being.
I'd do exactly what Lott is doing.
You accuse me of being a racist, after I've apologized however-many-times, and you can go to hell.

The Rev, Jesse Petersen says to hold the line with Lott, whats your problem ? Think about how you look on this issue, it's not very good.

Interesting list.
What would his motivation be?

Well said!

I wonder why Dasshole is the current Majority Leader and not the "N" Byrd? Could it be because having someone with a racist upbringing is untenable politically? What a political notion to adhere to.

"NO Dem would have voted for impeachment, no matter what, just like Lott said." Actually, Bob Woodward named eight who were leaning that way -- until Daschle assured them that the GOP was going to pull its punches, so they wouldn't be harmed politically.

I can't believe a lot of what I've read from longtime posters and conservatives over the last week. Gee Sink. You haven't surprised me at all. :-)
You're as consistent as you've always been.
And consistently wrong at that.

This is the link Deport provided that appears to be the law on the subject (Oregon, TX, and PA are recent states that had special elections for resigning Senators). From glancing at it, it looks to me like there would have to be a special. But I will read it more carefully later. Deport, what does it look like to you? When would there be an election to replace Lott?

Bush is in trouble over this, now? He needs to "recover"? He's in a freefall and his Presidency is in peril?
Where did you get these talking points?
To: HoundsTooth_BP
We're not tossing it away; Lott may be. Integrity is a coveted thing as well, by the way.

This has made me more ashamed of the republican party and GW than I have ever been. Surely you jest, what did GW have to do with this anyway?
To: SwordofTruth
Surely you jest, what did GW have to do with this anyway? Because he did not stand up and say the claim was bogus.

If Lott dilly dallys and waits until the Senate reconvenes, Musgrove doesn't have to call the special election until the next MS general election which is in November 2003. No, no. Not true. The exception in the law about occuring in a year in which a general election occurs such as 2002 is predicated upon the vacancy occuring prior to the election. Even if it occured Dec 31, 2002. The governor would be required to hold special election in March 2003.

Lott may leave on his own, but he is not going to allow the hyenas to force him out. He'll be out by next Friday night.
To: crasher
Musgrove would never appoint her to fill Lott's seat. He will appoint a Democrat. THAT's my point.
To: sinkspur
Thanks for posting. Wow, if he does somehow stay, imagine the morale in the leadership ranks of the Republican Senate. How do you stay on as Majority Leader if the entire Senate hates your guts?
To: TBall
Is your post true? I reported what I heard. It was also reported on CNBC.
I don't know if Jonathan Karl is a liar or not.
To: sinkspur
Trent Lott... said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position. So what?
Even if Lott did say this, everyone knows that when you negotiate, you start from an extreme position and move towards a middle ground.
This is more liberal media demonstrating how they lost the bias wars and conceded defeat to conservatives.

"W can control Lott from the bullypulpit, what is everybody so worried about ?"
Why didn't 'W' prevent Lott from dropping his pants for all to see a week ago, before this Royal Vacant Traitor energized the RATS and gave them an issue to promote ad nauseum? It's obvious what the sheeple that get their politics from the 4th Estate will be fed a heavy diet of from now until the cows come home...
