I thought it would be nice to put things in perspective for the landlubbers here. I joined a VERY old picture of a ship I was on, going through a typhoon, with your Coast Guard vessel, so that a comparison could be made. My first ship was 350 feet long. It was an old LST.(tank landing ship).
The Coast Guard vessel is compared to it's size in an approximation. I hope this explains the danger.

Worst time I ever had on my destroter was in a typhoon outside of Japan.
60-80' waves, 46 1/2 degree roll at one point.

hehehe... My first tour was on the Polar Sea (icebreaker out of Seattle). One time of several crossings of the Gulf of Alaska I was on lookout on the flybridge. 80 feet high. Took green water over my railing...
...to this day I have yet to unpucker. :-)
