You said you hadn't heard anything that would indicate that Lott's statement might be taken as a racist one. I was merely suggesting a potential cure for your apparent hearing problem.
Now, one more time: saying that Strom Thurmond, running on an explicitly racist platform that Stom himself has long since disowned, should have won that election--please explain to me how this is NOT a racist statement. You do a ton of arm-waving, but you never quite seem to get around to that little detail.

But to be brutally honest, it is hard to see how Strom being elected in 1948 would have been worse than the sorry state of affairs we have today.
