He's not called "Vacant Lott" for nothing.

Yep with Lott lynched, the black vote will shrink to 96% democrat to a meager 95%. Give me a break. Black republicans are very adept with the race card.

But when a personal embarrassment in his life became public, Congressman Livingston announced his resignation, in order to spare his party.

The "personal embarassment" that became public was leaked by Larry Flynt and his sleaze merchants.

Apparently no amount of debauchery is sufficent to make a Democrat apologize, much less resign.

It is time to stop the madness and fight back. As long as Byrd and Hollings are in the Senate so shall Lott be.

This one shocks me. However, I don't take Sowell's comments lightly. I don't think it's fair myself, but Lott better go.

NotaLott should remain Senator from Mississippi, but he should go as majority leader, not so much because of his nostalgic cracker-barrell remarks but because he is ineffective.

There is a silver lining here.

I listened to Lott on Hannity today. Sowell is not someone who's opinion should be taken lightly.

He is absolutely correct that Lott now becomes an albatross, for conservative progress.

He is not a particularly good spokesman for conservative causes. Now he is a liability.

It is an opportunity for those who didn't believe he was effective before, to get him replaced. Maybe Cheney will deliver the news.

Kattracks, I hope it is okay if I ask the Moderator to include Thomas Sowell's name in the title.

I think it might get more readership.

WOW....Charles Krauthammer and now Thomas Sowell calling for Lott to step down as house speaker.

I've not been on here in a few days but this mess seems like a major railroading as well as a golden opportunity.

I've not been a big Lott fan. I think we need a leader with a spine. I'm sick of him kissing liberal butt.

OTOH I can see what a HUGE hypocritical show this is by Dems.

There is a silver lining here.

If he is driven out over this, you can put the strongest conservative in the position and he will be forever muzzled when it comes to social programs because EVERY one of them are built around race.

But he made the same asinine statements back in 1980 and apparently learned nothing from the adverse reactions it provoked then.

Not to mention the Council of Conservative Citizens mess a few years ago, another completely unnecessary PR disaster for the Republicans. I agree with the people who say that Lott should go not for being a racist, but for being incompetent.

Yup. No one thinks Lott is a racist. But he certainly is stupid and stupidity has no place in national leadership. In the 21st century I don't want the GOP associated with racism and segregation. The last thing I want to see is conservatives associate with all the reactionary worst of the Jim Crow South. Let the Democrats have their wackos, loonies, and misfits. And in the meantime we'll try to run like hell away from ours. We don't want them, period.

Lott should not step down; he should not offer any more apologies-this matter is done! We should judge people based on their hearts and actions, and unlike many of his detractors, Trent Lott has no history of being a racist."

LimpaLott is a 100% liability for the conservative movement now. It's time for him to let someone else lead. The obviousness of this only offends the Lott-bots at this point. Now, instead of losing losing 92% of 10,000,000 black votes, with the maelstrom that come will come of the dunce's comments and half-hearted retraction/clarification, we will lose 98% of 15,000,000 black votes. Way to go Vacant Lott, you dimwit. This is bigger than you. Start giving back to your conservative friends and stop taking for your own self-centered power-tripping (sharing?) bs.
