Lott doesn't step down as Majority Leader, he just doesn't get elected to it in the next session.
A little late for that to happen isn't it?

ah, so youre a gore voter?

I agree with you. I wish just once Republicans would stand firm instead of running under the beds for cover.

Lott is a drag on us nationally. He has been for a long time. Even arguing the merits of his case at this point is reinforcing failure. We must seize the opportunity to remove him from the Senate leadership now. This is not about "fairness" to Lott. What happens to him is irrelevant. Think about who would be President now if Gore had called on Clinton to step down instead of extolling his "greatness" at the time of impeachment. We can no longer carry these coon-ass bigots on our backs. They belong in the dustbin of history, not our future.

I'd wager that for every person offended by Lott's supposed "racist" comment there's another one offended by the way conservatives run for the hills like scared rabbits when the game of racial gotcha begins - makes them all look like they have guilty consciences..... Excellent observation. And I would want in on that side of the action.

No. Read Ohioan's post # 44
here. Lott's remark, viewed from a historical perspective, is not the same as Hitlery's chilling
casual, banal antisemitism!

I just think it is time too get the old school southern people out of the leadership. Most of all when their weak kneed. Unless Moconnel whants the job. We need some new blood in their too fight for our side, not cave in.

You know what, I agree! Do the letters FO mean anything to them??? :)

REPUBLICAN SENATE MAJORITY LEADER:
RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IS OK
----------
Has Party BackingI hope everybody likes that soundbite. Because we can "explain" till we're blue in the face, but if we keep defending Lott, we're gonna be hearing it for a lonnnnnnnnnng time.
I say it's not worth losing the whole Republican agenda over him, no matter what other high-minded motives we might have.
Lott expresses regret for remarks; court filing from 1981 surfaces
IMHO, SD

yes but Gore didn't have any family/moral issues. If Bush winked at a cute girl and Gore was Barney Frank's lover...Arkansans would've punished Bush handing Gore the victory!

He's assuming (and we know what happens when we ASS-U-ME) that the press will give Lott a fair shake relative to liberals.
